Mad Woods:|This place has a great pool with a nice view and location. I was also confused by this place. It seems to be a bed and breakfast but without the expected hospitality. I wasn't able to use the kitchen, or refrigerator but there was no offer or explanation on breakfast times. I was disappointed when a large construction project began directly under my window the morning after checking in. I woke up to generators, bulldozers and jackhammers, and had to jump over an exposed sewer to access the front lobby (see photo). When asked if they offered a discount at checkout I was told that it wasn't the hotel's construction so they weren't responsible. After sharing my disappointment with them they proceeded to tally up my bill, including my $1 cup of instant coffee, it seemed petty and a small gesture could have gone a long way. I felt unwelcome and like I was only valuable for my money. The waves here were empty and fun but it seems that|Huanchaco is struggling to find its place in the travel industry. It made me feel guilty for being a part of tourism affecting a small village's culture. Most establishments seem focused on making money rather than making travelers feel welcome. I would, however strongly recommend Atma Yoga, the owners here have a vision for the town's future and I hope they can find a leadership role so that this town doesn't lose its culture pandering to captive beach...
Read morethe staff at this hostel were unethical. we arrived looking for two nights. they told us they only had one night so when we said we would look elsewhere they said “no problem. we will work something out for two nights. we might have to move you to a dorm room on the second night.” we said that would be fine.|that first night, my husband sat at the bar till late . despite it being obvious that he had too much to drink, two of the hotel staff willingly drank a number of drinks on my husbands tab because my inebriated husband offered to buy them drinks. and they weren’t inexpensive beers but expensive shots.i would expect hotel staff to have a higher standard of conduct. instead they took advantage of his condition to help themselves to liquor at our expense. |then, after the drinks, they inform my husband after midnight that they didn’t have a room for us the second night and we would have to leave in the morning. |i don’t think it is unreasonable for me to believe that they purposely told us they would give us a second night when we first arrived just to get our money for the first night knowing full well they wouldn’t follow through. |they are a bad...
Read moreGreat hostel, albeit mostly empty. The room we had reserved was taken, so they upgraded us. We were put in the best hostel room we’ve had so far, and we’ve been traveling for a long time! It was large and spacious and had a beautiful view of the ocean. The hostel is quite new, so the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The prices were decent, pretty average for the area. We didn’t try their food, but it was very cheap. The management was friendly. We had to stay one night less, and they had no problem with adjusting our reservation. They also let us store our bags there early in the morning after a night bus, and then again after we checked out. The only issue is that is it about 10 minutes or so out of the main part of town. In any case, we definitely recommend...
