The location is great only a few blocks from shopping, casinos and eats. Not to mention souvenir shopping at Catacaos is not too far away - just over the bridge about 20 mins by car. I feel the rate for a double room for 3 is too high for a room on the street side. There is a lot of traffic and noise (honking). Keep this in mind as the city is up late and up early if you get a street side room. The room we got was below average, first floor by the pool, with air conditioning. The door did not fit the frame and it was not a solid door (hollow). This explains the mosquitos in the room as there is an inch of open space at the top, bottom and the sides of the door. I have paid for less at other hotels that were of better quality. The rest of the room was fair - beds were a little stiff, cable tv, and a desk w/chair. The Continental breakfast was fair - toast, coffee, and mango juice. You can add eggs ($) n such which is a plus. The lobby, restaurant, staff, and pool area were all fair. Side note if you are in the mood for pizza like I was - I was happy to find a Papa Johns and Pizza Hut in the surrounding area about 20 minutes walking if you...
Read moreMy wife and I were staying at another hostel but looked inside las arenas to check it out. Alejandro was at the front desk and was very helpful. We were looking for a long stay apartment rental and Alejandro went above and beyond by calling a few places advertised in a local paper and contacting a real estate agent and some other contacts he had in the city on our behalf despite the fact that we weren't staying at his hostel. We decided to switch over to las arenas and spent 2 nights there at a rate of 110 soles per night. The other guests were mostly Peruvian families and some businessmen. The pool was as nice as any other hostel pool we saw and the room with ensuite and cable television was clean and comfortable. Alejandro actually arranged a viewing of an apartment and shared a cab with us to go see it. Truly over the...
Read moreI should make it clear that I didn't actually stay at the hostel.||||However, arriving it Piura, Peru after a 10 hour journey from Ecuador, we were hungry, thirsty, tired and had no local currency. We were walking past the hostel and the lady directed us to an ATM nearby at Plaza Grau. She also allowed us to leave our backpacks while we return to the bus station to book our onward tickets to Lima the next day.||||When we came back to collect the bags, we were offered a room at the rate we were quoted at another hotel, but decided against as we had already paid online. Given the hassle with finding an honest taxi driver (to take us to our hotel), we almost wish we could've just stayed there, as it is only 3 small blocks from the bus companies on Av. Loreto, as well as being...
