This is a reasonable jungle-hotel in a rather primitive city with very little other than nature to offer - that's how I'd sum up Cabaña Quinta, a quite fair option for Puerto Maldonado.||The area of the hotel is quite large and with a number of segments; too bad the street is not paved and the highway towards the bridge is right beside it, making it less quiet than it deserves and we'd desire!||Reception is friendly but crude, and they don't know how to handle shortcomings, as I shall explain later about the check-out.||There are so many different kinds of accommodation, that one can't know whether one gets what was paid for or whether there has been some sort of upgrade, it is rather confusing! Nonetheless, I'd suggest the bungalows on the back of the hotel or rooms on the high floor behind the reception.||It is all rustic, with a lot of wood and plants, very much integrated with the surrounding nature and of some good taste for such a simple hotel!||The room, allegedly a double superior, is spacious and I'd describe it as a junior suite, with a separate sitting room. The glass windows allow natural light and every grit is covered by a net to keep mosquitoes away, including in the bathroom!||There could be some more power sockets but there are way more than in some 4* hotels in Peru! Internet is efficient and fast enough too; bathroom is also okay and the missing item is a toilet brush!||The hotel offers a small pool, parking lot, meeting rooms and computers, as well as a game room, a bar and a restaurant. Speaking of it, breakfast is simply perfect, much better than in many expensive hotels in the country, with so much to choose from and all fresh!||Restaurants and travel agencies are three blocks away on the main square, where one also find banks/ATMs.||The constant power shortages in the city - there were 6 during our three-night stay! - don't seem to have the hotel get a generator, for our comfort and theirs! A nobreak, just to keep internet active for some 30min while electricity is temporarily gone, would be a wise and cheap investment!||Reception has no plan B when without power and guests need to pay by credit card; since such situation is so frequent, why not be prepared? They are very willing, though, to drive you somewhere so you can exchange or cash out.||It is really the best place you can stay at in the city, because other possibilities are either far too basic or pricey lodges in the forest only...

Read moreOur birding group spent a night here, which is about as much time as you would want to spend in this depressing city. The place was adequate for our needs. It is a maze, and my wife and I were in a room on the ground floor way back. A member of the staff had to guide us there. The room was small, with two beds that took up much of the space. There was a rod with hangars and some shelves to put things, but no place for the luggage except the floor. The air conditioning worked well, once we figured out how to operate it with the remote. The room was clean. There is hot water in the hand-held shower, but not in the sink. The sink is the raised bowl kind on a wooden counter, and there is no place to put the soap except on the counter. Towels are not of the best quality, just adequate. The hotel does not provide bottled water in the rooms, but there is a water cooler in the lobby. It was empty when we went to dinner but had been refilled by morning.||||The restaurant and bar are in a separate building, which is mostly not air conditioned. Our group had dinner in a private room which did have AC. The dinner menu was quite extensive, and the food was good and the portions large. The service was okay, but with some problems. The appetizer arrived after the main courses, and the white wine was room temperature. The breakfast buffet was quite large, with lots to choose from.||||This is probably as good as it gets in...
