When we arrived in the late afternoon, it was as if the hotel was closed, asleep and staff had just all woken up. We walked into a very dark hotel and they began to start opening some of the lights to attend to us. No one helped us from the main entrance and we had a lot of luggage. There was one person mopping the floor in darkness and called out to the rest of the staff. Checking in took forever. For dinner, it was the same, we were the only ones in the hotel and it took forever for the food to come. I have to say that the food was very good though. At night, we could not really properly rest. Our room was very old-dark, broken curtains, did not really have good basic amenities but spacious. We had to ask for two space heaters to warm the room and this took a very long time to get heated. Even without guests in the hotel, it was noisy. I think staff live here too. We also happened to be near the elevator that beeped every time someone used it all day and all night long. The worst part is our room was beneath the upper deck where they had what seemed to be bar, loud music and some activities going on. We could hear chairs shuffling the whole night until they closed. I think locals come to drink here too. We got our laundry done, left our luggage to be stored while we headed up to Aguas Calientes. Upon return to pick up our luggage and laundry, the whole hotel seemed like a totally different place. Upon entering, the lights were all open and functional, the offices, bar and restaurant were all open, lighted, functioning, with people and the foreign manager was present. So that was weird for us as we did not get the same experience at all. We felt like we were staying in a ghost town. The photos online are also so much nicer than what the hotel really is. So I understand where the good reviews are coming from but I would personally not be staying here again as there are other...
Read moreThere are some reviews that you’re just excited to write about and this is certainly one of them. Im so excited to write about this that I’m currently doing so in my taxi headed back to Cusco to catch my flight back to Lima.
If you’ve stumbled upon this gem, don’t give it another thought, just book it. While the facilities themselves are top of their class, it’s the service that elevates this location above all of its competition.
We chose this location because we were traveling with out toddler and didn’t want to be in the high traffic areas of Cusco or Ollantaytambo. While both of those areas had adequate lodging options we’ve dealt with staying in high traffic tourist locations before and the overwhelming experience of being a foreigner overwhelmed by local vendors.
This location placed us 10 min away from Ollantaytambo where we took our train to Manchu Piccu, but it delivered on so much more than we ever could have imagined. The manager is what makes this location unique. He booked all of our taxis, both before our arrival and during. He advised us on costs which gave us comfort because at times some drivers do try to take advantage.
The restaurant on site is a literal steakhouse. It was disappointing because after having a meal there on our first night there was no other restaurant in Peru that lived up to the amazing meals we had at our hotel.
But the hidden gem of this hotel is its rooftop. Im from Atlanta and I maybe see 20 stars in the sky on any given night. On this hotel’s rooftop I feel like I saw every star in the galaxy all right above the beautiful dark silhouette of the beautiful mountains. This review could go on and on and I promise you the staff and management deserve it but to end now just book it. After staying all across Peru this is the one location that I know for a fact I...
Read moreWe stayed here before and after Machu Picchu. They let us park our rental car and store our big luggages here while we took a taxi and train to stay at Aguas Caliente for 2 nights. My husband is allergic to perfumes/ cleaning chemicals, the staff (Lucia and a nice gentleman) spoke English and were so accommodating and opened numerous rooms for us to check prior to selecting the room best for us. We also wanted access to outdoor space, this hotel has an outdoor yoga platform, rooftop restaurant has windows that open for a nice breeze, there is car exhaust smell and cow manure smell. It is noisy if your room faces the street, we just wore ear plugs. All rooms were very clean, if you leave windows open bugs will fly into the room, they were not mosquitoes so I didn’t mind. I actually like having bugs as a good indicator to me that the environment is not being sprayed by pesticides or room sprayed by Lysol. Internet speed is okay, sufficient for digital nomads. They also have a sauna, hot tub in rooms, nice yoga space, ping pong room. The rooftop restaurant only serves buffet lunch 12-3pm, not dinner. lunch is $75 PEN, flute music was loud. Other times the rooftop is a nice place to use your computer and have WiFi. There is no AC, and you can request a space heater if you need it. We did not need AC or heater while we were there in April, temperatures were...
