I stayed here along with my partner and sister for 3 nights in Feb 2015. We had a fantastic time with fantastic service 24/7. We booked via Agoda then had to pay for an extra room in cash when checking-out. Total Php 7,600 per night for 2 rooms but you have the house exclusive to you. ||||The house it self is what i imagine living in when i finally live out my dream of living simply on a remote island in PH. The place lacked a menu so make sure you have an idea of what you want then the chefs will certainly cook it for you. Every meal was sarap (delicious)! There's constant supply of hot water in the showers and apparently AC but we never used it because our room was the master which had doors and plenty of windows.||||The island it self is beautiful with a small local occupancy. There's a lovely little bakery next to the health centre which makes a good breakfast/snack. Make sure you take a walk around the island. We went on a mission to find freshly caught fish but one of the fishermen recently caught a mantra ray so that was food for the whole island for a few days... no fish.||||The snorkelling sanctuary (5 mins walk away) is absolutely amazing, the best snorkelling i've experienced in PH in my 2.5 years here. The sunset from this beach is also something you shouldn't miss out. There is also small basic huts for people to rent here costing only Php 750 per night with all meals included!!||||The boat man Tony is awesome, we spent much time with him fishing, watching dolphins and visiting his family on Balicasag Island. He also picked us up at Dumaluan Beach (we stayed at Villa Formosa) and took us to the villa which took approx. 1 hr. And he dropped us off at Baclayon port (also about 1 hr journey) where our trip continued in Anda (Amuni Ini Resort - see my review there also).||||Overall it was great, possibly a little over priced BUT Bohol tends to be more pricier in general because it's been in the limelight for quite a few years now. ||||I wouldn't bother going to Alona beach - the biggest tourist trap I've come across in PH. Although it was really nice back in 2012 but now it's too busy and service...
Read moreFull of garbage around this island, and after one hour boat ride from Panglao island, I figured no wonder no body stayed on this island as we were riding over it.||Mary’s cottage was the snorkeling service provider there and these locals run their business like mafia. We got scammed by paying the money on Alona beach for going there plus snorkeling service n gears included, by the time we got there, these people also tried to scammed us by saying we had to pay extra for snorkeling n the gears, also, to see different sites here, no equipment included, you had to pay for your own mask and then shoes separately.||They knew we took an hour to get there so they took the advantage of it n said no money then no snorkeling. The worst experience we ever had in this country. Then we were given very worn out masks that it leaked and broke later.||There are a lot of corals but not many fish around, we figured it’s the pollution in this island, you can see plastic bags and bottles everywhere, whether it’s from the tourists or these local business families. It’s pretty gross and filthy.||After an hour of snorkeling, we couldn’t wait to leave, it’s not as good as Balicasag island (the other nearby site for snorkeling), I would recommend to skip this island.....||There are way more better places worth your time n energy than this one!||Avoid Mary’s Cottage...
Read moreStayed for over one week at mary cottages, during july is when the seas are the calmest. Food is village style phillipino fare with big quantities .|The staff are helpful and the dolphin watching is great as they DO NOT CHASE AFTER THEM unlike some operators in panglao..they approach cautiously as not to upset or disturb them.|Snorkling around the island offers different ecologies and many not so common fish, sea snakes are plentyful but dont worry as they are busy hunting small prey and you are of no interest. The coral has nice varieties but with all the different problems such as overfishing..some boats anchors, propellers lifting sand ,crown of thorn starfish and suntan lotions ..one should see them sooner rather than later. The sanctury has some reasonable size fish and a nice drop off .The trevelly swim around you and number in the hundreds so if you have an underwater camera nice!|....|For boatman and santuary fee P 250.|Walking around the island is easy and nice views.|Negitives are that some people on the island are trying to enforce private beaches and private ocean (on the tourist side of the island) so local politics are not so nice.Hopefully you will miss them and have a wonderful trip..most people are...
