My friends & I went on a very quick visit to Cagayan de Oro, not for pleasure but on a "business" trip. So we were looking for a place to stay overnight with a very reasonable rate that does not go up higher than Php 2,000 for all four of us. And so my friend took the initiative of Google & found Middleton Apartelle. When we got there around 7:00 in the evening, we were greeted by very friendly staffs. They had lots of guests when we got there. But when we asked for the room that my friend saw in their website, all rates are not applicable anymore and we were told that they were not able to update it yet! And we were like "what?"! Oh well, since we were so tired from the 6 hour drive from Davao City, we didn't argue with the frontdesk (as if there's something we can do about it!). All rates have gone up to 300.00 increase from their published rate. The good thing though is that, they will let you check out the rooms first & let you decide which one you opt to stay. Since there are four of us, we needed double beds, preferably bigger sizes. So we checked the De luxe, Presidential & the suite. There are a lot of rooms but as per the front desk, not all are newly renovated, and so they only let us see the very new ones (in terms of renovation). The Suite, wasnt so bad at all because it is near the pool, its a two story apartelle with its own garage, then there's a winding staircase to go up to the 2 separate rooms upstairs, one with its own bathroom, a king size bed, tv and a terrace with a view of the swimming pool. While the other rooms has no bathroom & tv or terrace, just 1 single bed with pull-out bed. Downstairs has the cooking utensils, refrigerator & electric oven that you get to use for cooking & dining set. Problem is that the dining chair wasn't that very appealing to us since its kinda old & rusty that when you turn it around, it lets out a squeaky sound! So we went to check the De luxe room with 2 separate beds, a sink, a dining set, a tv set, hot & cold shower & refrigerator. The room was much appealing to us because its big, spacious & newly renovated than the apartelle so we chose to stay here. The aircondition is also very good. The sheets are clean & you need not take up the stairs if you wanna lie down, so perfect if you have some oldies with you because the room is just a little walk away from where you will park your car (this doesnt have its own garage). We didnt get to try their swimming pool so I just took a photo. We also have not tried their food because we left a little early the day after & just came back to get our bags in time for the scheduled check-out time. It was a very homey stay with a very friendly & accomodating staff. One thing though, there aren't many signage as to where this is located, you need to check google maps & memorize the streets if it is your first time in CDO, so as not to get lost like us! Hahaha. But it was well worth the...
Read moreThis was my first, and hopefully only stay at the Middleton Apartelle. This property offers standard motel rooms and 2-story, apartment style units, with carports. It's not the easiest place to find, and is not within walking distance to any major shopping, restaurants, beaches or points of interest. ||||The motel looks quite good from the outside. The project is built around a large swimming pool, and appears very upscale and modern. The looks inside is are bit different. ||||We rented a 2-bedroom apartment. When we checked in, our unit was dirty, and had no towels. The management brought us towels, but we had to wait until morning to have the place cleaned. ||||Downstairs there's a carport, living and dining areas, kitchen and full bath. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, the larger room having an en suite bath. The master bedroom has a double bed, and the only television. The back bedroom contains only a twin size bed, even though there is easily room for a double bed. I believe management did this to entice guests to rent extra foam mattresses.||||The mattresses are very cheap, and not really high density foam. They cushion you somewhat, but you can still feel the wooden platform underneath. The upstairs bath is very basic, being contained in one large shower stall. It's separated from the bedroom by an obscured glass partition (rain glass). When someone uses the bathroom or shower, anyone in the bedroom can see their outline moving about. Taking a shower soaks down the toilet. The fixtures were of the cheapest grade, and in poor condition.||||The living area downstairs is very small. The kitchen is primitive, with a small fridge and 2 gas burners, sitting on a shelf. There is no air conditioning downstairs, but each bedroom has an A/C unit. The master bedroom also has a balcony, overlooking the pool. The pool is quite large, and the strongest selling point of Middleton. Too bad they don't take the leaves out in a timely manner.||||There is a large covered area beside the pool, with tables and chairs. It is a great place for a family to have lunch and watch the children swim. It is also a great place for loud drunken parties, that last well into the night, as other guests attempt to sleep. It did not seem to be a priority of the management to cleanup the area the next morning, so we had to try and avoid the Redhorse and Tanduay empties, along with the spilled beer and rotting garbage.||||At $58 USD a night, the place looks like a pretty good bargain, but the cheap finish out and lack of cleanliness make it impossible...
Read moreOh my goodness where do I begin? It was so bad I paid for 2 nights and checked out after 1, losing my money, but it was grim. I checked into my "apartment". Black dust cobwebs in every corner of every room, the stairs and every turn in the ceiling. Two toilets with no toilet seats and they didn't flush. You got a dipper and a bucket. I complained and they offered to change room, but I said, if you can't clean this room, are you cleaning the rest? They cleaned and fitted one toilet seat. But no flushing toilets. If you want a number two fill the water bucket and sloosh my friends. Half a bucket will do a for a number one. There was a cockroach sat on the second bed, which I managed to whack. But next morning when I went to put on my shoes, a frog jumped out (sorry this is not a joke, even if it sounds like it). I saw it disappear under the fridge the previous night. The living room/kitchen is dark and grim. With the animal life I had discovered, I wondered if it was safe to open the cupboards. Was woken up by people shouting in the pool at 6 in the morning. It opens 6am to 11pm. The pool is nice and looks clean, but is surrounded by dirty looking grey (originally white) plastic chairs. Maybe you can tell from the pics? Although when I sat by the pool, the surrounding road is only 2m from the pool edge and a car was sat right next to me with the engine running. I asked it to move, which it did by 5 metres, still hearing it and it revving up every time the air con kicked in. I asked the manager if she could kindly get them to move it. Wifi does not work in the rooms and despite many attempts could not get it to work just outside reception where you can eat bfast, despite a member of staff trying to log in for me. It's not in the best part of town, you have barbed wire and shacks 2m outside the rear window. At the start of my second afternoon I realised I could not really spend another night there. The member of staff who took my bags to reception, just laughed as he collected my bags and walked to reception. I could not understand if he was taking the mickey or was just extremely rude. Needless to say, as a Brit, that sort of behaviour means no tip. I breathed a sigh of relief as I got in the taxi and drove away. Mallberry Suites was a relief and the same price as this had cost me. I wasted a night's fees, but it was better than staying a...
