I have very mixed feelings about Bohol Bee Farm.
On the one hand, it’s nicely tucked away from the trashier areas in Panglao and the place is peaceful so it’s to its advantage to not be next to the beach.
On the other hand, I’ve found the service to be really hit and miss, I was in a big but outdated garden-facing room (Loboc) with a decor from the 70s, and the overall experience was not dissimilar to staying in a theme park, albeit a very tame one.
Which brings me to my main point: it’s a place that grows its own food and it’s very fresh compared to most restaurants you can go to on the island. But they have turned this into a bit of a local attraction, with big groups coming to eat, see the artisans (a little bit like in a zoo), and buy some locally-produced souvenirs. (Thankfully, my room was further away from the tourists passing through).
The staff were sometimes very friendly and helpful, sometimes outright rude and cocky. They’re not the most professional but that’s not always a bad thing.
Beware that the prices they quote for transfers and tuktuks are grossly inflated. It should not cost you more than 150 pesos one way to Alona Beach, make it 200 if you must. But not 300.
I once asked about a tuktuk transfer to the airport and I was quoted 800 by the receptionist (lol). I came back the next day and it was 300 (still too expensive). I told a cocky manager there that it should be more like 150-200 and he laughed, saying these are the prices. For reference, a grab (car) is less than 300.
Even though I told him, as a white guy but in Tagalog, that it’s normally cheaper - he said it was impossible when, in fact, I had just paid that price back from Alona Beach.
If you really want to go to Panglao, consider this place. But there are better places to visit in the Phillies than Panglao / Bohol, and where the whole set-up feels less like one big farm to milk tourists as much as possible.
PS: if you don’t like cold showers, unreliable internet, or insects, this is not the...
Read moreWhat a wonderful experience!! I've had a fantastic afternoon and morning at Bee farm hotel. I had the swimming pool all to myself. The dinner was so tasty. Im vegetarian so I had the spicy aubergine and garlic rice. It was lovely. The ginger flavour and the chilli was delicious. There was complimentary squash bread that is cooked on the premises with two types of flavoured butters! Perfect to have while watching the sun set. I woke to the sound of birds and geckos. It was magical. I had been upgraded so I had a massive room on the top floor with fantastic views. Breakfast! Well, it was massive. I had scrambled eggs, waffles bread and muffin made here too. Local honey, and they swapped the ham for a beautiful salad with pineapple and edible flowers. What a treat. The staff are so friendly and the facilities are beautiful. And the fact the vegetables are grown here, you can even make ice cream and you're surrounded by art and crafts makes it a fantastic place to stay. I've had the most wonderful...
Read moreOur favorite place in Panglao! We intentionally came back here since we loved our first visit and with some luck they upgraded us to an ocean view suite for free! The room was a bang for the buck. Spacious and comfy with a terrace that offers you a stunning view of the ocean. Amenities work well plus the appliances, AC, fridge and water heater. They offer daily cleaning and changing of toiletries and water refills. There were cockroach situations, maybe three times in the 4 days we stayed there and we mentioned it to the cleaner. Theyre very small and I thought it was normal since the furnishings were wooden as well as the floor, but I just mention incase its critical for some. It comes with a free buffet bfast (buffet depends on the number of guests otherwise it will be plated bfast) which showcases their organic products. Special mention of course, the beat ice cream I have tried - their Avocado Ice Cream! Pls do try if u ever...
