I maybe bias in my review here, but I like the ambiance of the place where the resort is located. It's not crowded and it's quiet. Perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of city life.
The resort has WiFi, but the connection is poor. But if you have mobile data, then connectivity won't be an issue.
The food? They serve generous servings of food. Their Filipino dishes taste good. Their Italian dishes are okay. The resort has a bar, but I don't know how it is since I'm not a drinker.
The rooms? I have been to El Cañonero thrice already and I have observed that the rooms were not well-maintained. From the door knobs with missing parts to shower rooms being held together by packaging tape. There is no way to reach the reception except going there yourself. No daily room service so we borrow broom and rugs to clean our room, which we really don't mind. It took the AC unit some time to cool the room and it's a good thing the room has a fan. You could ask the staff for additional supplies in your room like bath towels and tissue paper. The restroom/shower room is clean upon check-in, but it would be up to the occupants to maintain its cleanliness during their stay. The hot shower works although the device seems defective as it turns off by itself.
The pool is always clean. Pets are allowed. Freshly caught shellfish or fishes are being sold by locals at the beachfront and you could ask the staff to cook it for a fee. You could bring your own food here since the room has a small fridge. The staff of El Cañonero is nice overall, particularly Dianne.
I wouldn't recommend El Cañonero to people who expect to be pampered by the staff. If you don't mind cleaning up by yourselves and you just want to really relax (i.e. eat, sleep, swim, watch TV, catch up with your companions), then you may find this resort a suitable place to do just that. For me and my friends, El Cañonero is our home...
Read moreWe stayed few nights at this place. We really liked the peacefullness and quietness of this place - at the day time. In the late evening there was sometimes quite much noise from the restaurant at the same yard, thanks to the veey drunken tourists. Also a yacht seemed to keep their big boat just beside the hotel and they obviously strongly loved to party. They had superload music and the parties take looong to the night until stopping.|Anyway, at the daytime this place was very quiet, the hotel staff was absolutely helpful and kind, many thanks to them! The room was a little bit worn and old dated, beds quite hard. But if that is not a problem for you, then go.|Only about 7-10 minutes to the White Beach, where you can find restaurants to visit. Take a tricycle up in the hill, but do not pay more than 50 pesos. They'll try first to get 100 pesos or even more for a drive, if you look like a newcome tourist. Do not pay, and negotiate the price in forehand of course.|If you are looking for snorkelling, I am sorry to tell that there is nothing to snorkel for. Few fishes, so rent a boat and go to Coral Garden. 2500 pesos for 7-8 hours seemed to be the tax. Do not pay 3000 pesos, even though they are...
Read moreNice little seafront resort, located next to the last remains of a once beautiful large white sand beach. Nowadays it's mostly pebbles & rocks.
El Canonero offers affordable rooms with A/C, hot shower, TV, a frequently cleaned pool (partly 7.5ft deep), and a function room with great views on 1st floor. The bit remote location make this a fantastic budget getaway for the family.
We stayed in RM-3, a double bed + bunk bed room half way to Luca's Restaurant, stepping out of the room onto the little sandy beach. The WiFi from reception area didn't reach us there, but we were also not disturbed too much by vendors.
A word about service: the staff is generally friendly, but also here the clocks tick in the slower Mindoro speed: It took them 20 and following day even 30 minutes to serve...
