JJ Midcity Inn — Hotel in Tabaco

Tabaco, Albay is the birthplace of my mother. The primary reason why we opted to choose JJ Midcity Inn is because I had a nice experience talking to one of its staff who was very attentive when I made a call for a dinner reservation for my family a day before we arrived in Tabaco. My mother turned 81, and as a surprise gift to her, we granted her wish of celebrating it in her hometown and dine in one of the decent hotels in the area. Every month this hotel offer a set menu with variety of choices for families or group of people at a very affordable price. I chose set menu 1 good for 8-10 people at a price of 2,899.00! I also add blueberry cheesecake for only 500 which was good enough for our group. I commend the staff for being so nice and always have a smile for their clients. I would also like to say, that we never tried any of their rooms because we only dine at their in house restaurant. But so far, good reviews from others cited that their rooms...

You know us and I wished we could give a better rating but we have to be honest. The service was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was nice and reasonable.

But! 😳

This is NOT the place for older folks with knee issues. The walk up to the lobby was really steep. You'll have to crawl onto the bed 🙄

The KTV on the 3rd Floor isn't sound proof so unless you went up to the bar on the 4th floor to get a little high, you won't be able to rest until the singing stops.

The bath was ☹️ this is not the place if you're looking for a spotless functioning bath. Hot water was one and off so during a bath, you would be freezing and scaled. Not a fan!

The aircon can get crazy cold and the remotes are not in the best conditions.

Young adults with friends on a shoe string buget would likely find this acceptable.

How and why I ended up here ... Well, let's just say I wasn't the one planning this trip 😅 I won't be...

Needed accommodation for 12 hours before catching a ferry the next day. There are stairs up to reception from the street (PWDs note). The impression is of a clean well appointed establishment. There is a cafe immediately to the left of reception. ₽1200 paid plus ₽500 refundable deposit. The room was small. Literally you could not swing a cat. The double bed occupied the width of the room. The space between bed and door was about 1.5mx0,7m the toilet/shower room is of similar dimensions accessed by sliding door. The cubical is glazed wall to ceiling with frosted glass. There was a TV but no remote. I operated it by buttons on the back of the set. BBC World News (channel 42). There were hooks on the wall and a single wooden coat hanger. The aircon was quiet and efficient. The bed clean and comfortable. I have never stayed in such a small room. It will not be my first choice...
