Hotel Rural Santo António — Hotel in Arronches

OK, late June and fairly warm so air con essential ... so why isn't it working? ||When it becomes too impossible to sleep due to soaking bed at 03.15 and I complain to night guy, he offers me the next door room - which also doesn't have a working system ... what are we paying for here? We're paying to sleep, right? Is that so difficult?||The architecture is appalling, a 2 story lego block facing east and west with both sides pure glass, so the inside of the place is a furnace anyway.||Bedroom doors don't automatically lock which is odd; anyone can just walk in without a key unless you actually lock yourself in.||Staff friendly and wanting to be helpful but not quite cutting it. I would have thought that four people leaning against the bar was enough to signal that we wanted a drink - so why did I have to walk across to the lobby and ask there for someone to come and serve us? Then it was "no" to several drinks, including both ginger ale and a tomatoe juice, before we finally had to settle on coke ...||The address on their website is misleading too. The hotel is in Arronches, not, as the website says, in Portalegre; it might be in Portalegre district, but Arronches is a good 20 kms away.||I can't comment on breakfast yet as it hasn't been served - it's still only 4.30, but I had to find something to do to fill the rest of my, yawn, sleeping period ... ||As this was the first night off we've had in four months and I was looking forward to a really lovely "weekend wiv da wife" I can't rate my dissatisfaction highly enough ... she's up there trying to sleep on two chairs pushed together out on the terrace and I'm down here in an empty bar typing this...

Having never heard of this hotel, we found it on BOOKING and decided to go for it. It was our "base" during a 4-day motorcycle tour of "Alto Alentejo" region.||||And I´m glad we opted for it since it proved to be an excelent choice. It is locate in a quiet village - Arronches - almost near the border but is conviniently located if you want to discover the region´s highlights (Elvas, Portalegre, Castelo de Vide, Marvão just to name a few spots).||||The hotel is recent (2011), has good bedrooms and bathrooms (with amenities), has a mini-bar (empty but handy to store what you bring) and balconies with chairs and table. The rooms face a typical - and pleasant - landscape. Only problem - since they face east, they are always "on the sun", thus the air con is a must and seems to work overtime so leave it on. Alentejo is very, very hot on summer.||||The pool is great, well proportioned and the water is spotless.||||We went twice to the in-house restaurant and this shows how much we liked it. It´s not expensive and we had 2 good dinners. Other guests seem to like, too. Tip: portions are huge so with an appetizer, a main course and desert we were both full :-)||||Last, the staff is friendly and specially a blonde lady (didn´t ask her name) is a great host and can provide amazing tips to discover the region.||||In sum,...

O hotel tem um potencial enorme para ser muito bom. Os quartos são amplos, frescos e a cama confortável. Fiquei no piso térreo com acesso direto a parte exterior o que è uma mais valia e com crianças foi muito bom, melhorou muito a nossa experiência. Os móveis por sua vez estavam muito danificados tanto no interior como na pequena varanda. A parte comum do hotel precisa de manutenção, paredes com infiltração. Não existe internet possível de aceder em todo o hotel. Só com dados móveis, è óptimo para descansar e desligar do mundo, contudo não muito prático para quem quer explorar e precisa de internet. Contudo sempre a cheirar bem e cuidado a nível de limpeza.

A parte exterior e realmente um grande problema. Muita muita muita falta de manutenção, com um espaço e um potencial enorme está tudo quase que ao abandono. A relva tem 2 balizas com redes todas rotas, podia-se tao bem por um parque para crianças ou aproveitar o espaço para lazer do hotel. A piscina tem um óptimo espaço super tranquila, a água è morna o que facilita com crianças, podemos observar animais, contudo está tudo muito partido, piscina a faltar azulejo, uma criança andava a apanhar bocados perdidos no fundo da piscina, 2 crianças fizeram feridas nos pés por os entalarem nas espreguiçadeiras partidas, que eram maior parte , um bar abandonado, piscina de manhã suja, com insetos mortos, sem qualquer manutenção por parte do pessoal do hotel, éramos nós que a limpávamos com redes. Casas de banho de acesso a piscina sujas mas tudo te ótimas infra-estruturais, casa de banho de apoio a piscina, chapéus de sol, jacuzzi, bar, que muitas vezes não encontramos em hotéis de 3 estrelas, tinha tudo para ser incrível pena não estar aproveitado.

Para nós outro ponto não tao bom foi sem dúvida o pequeno almoço muito pouco variado, só havia cereais, pão , pastei de nata miniatura, napolitanas miniatura, croissant miniatura, frutas, iogurtes, leite sumo e cafe, todos os dias o mesmo. Isto se fôssemos antes as 9h15, a partir dessa hora já não havia praticamente nada, e não era reposto, só foi reposto um dia que eram 9h00 e já nem pão havia para se comer e as pessoas acabaram por reclamar. Sendo o pequeno almoço até as 10h00 a gestão da comida deve ser feita de forma a haver sempre. Já que a diversidade não é muita.

De resto o hotel tem uma localização muito boa, Arronches è lindo, tem bastantes infra-estruturais que não conseguindo no hotel íamos para a vila, parques, restaurantes, e até uma boa piscina barata. Com tudo a volta para quem quer aproveitar a experiência.

O pessoal do hotel e simpático e muito prestável, só è realmente pena um hotel que tem um espaço incrível para ser um excelente hotel estar tao ao abandono a nível de manutenção...
