Sossega — Restaurant in Arronches

We last had lunch elswhere in Arronches but it was planned we would stop here the next time...and so we did, with a visiting relative. The reviews were too good not to try once at least despite the very unassuming location and outside look of the place. Yes, the restaurant appears to be integrated in the indoor swimming pool building and the small terrace certainly hasn't magnetic charms. But don't let yourself be put off. The restaurant has indeed a plunging view over the indoor pool. The dining area is relatively spacious with a manageable number of tables allowing for a relaxed ambiance and for the service to be perfectly attentive. The owner is a charming lady who was very welcoming and speaks good English, a rare occurrence in Alentejo. The menu is designed to fit on a black board, giving you a perfectly limited and reasonable choice. Who needs 10 starters, 20 main dishes and so on? All this is designed to allow for freshly prepared dishes and an obvious importance on quality. We kept the couvert of delicious bread, olives and butter. Now the big surprise was to see Nasi Goreng, an Indonesian rice dish (for those who don't know) on the menu! We love Asian food and there was no thinking twice. Our guest chose the piece of grilled beef. We took a bottle of the house red wine and a beer. Then the dish arrived, beautifully appetizing and so enticingly presented. Matching the visual quality was the taste too. Some of us could not give the dessert a miss, so we all decided on 1 pineapple carpaccio with mandarin sorbet, the chocolate fondant with vanilla ice-cream and the red fruit cheese-cake. Sadly I found my pineapple not sufficiently ripe and juicy. The sorbet was however right up my street. The place appeared rather popular with local/regional people which is a great and encouraging sign. Most tables were occupied by the time we were ready to leave. We paid our bill which came to lust under 70 euros for 3, congratulated the owner and 2 other staff. We were told that the Nasi Goreng is normally always on the menu along with other rotating Asian dishes. This place is a winner, the quality price ratio is pretty good for the location, we are certainly ready to try other dishes which looked fabulously tasty. Decidimos visitar o restaurante, depois de alguma pesquisa, motivados pelas fotografias partilhadas por outros clientes. A experiência começou mal logo nos primeiros minutos: alguma resistência a sentar o grupo (6 pessoas), a anotar o pedido, e no seguimento do jantar. Um dos pratos demorou 50 minutos a chegar à mesa - pedimos uma dose de plumas - e sem um único pedido de desculpas pela demora, a justificação foi o corte da carne. O mínimo que se exige neste tipo de situações é o tal pedido de desculpas que não existiu em momento nenhum, mesmo depois de perguntarmos pelo pedido 2 vezes. Quando chegou à mesa, já os restantes tinham acabado de jantar. Um dos pratos - pica-pau - tinha também um cabelo bastante grande dentro do molho. Foi uma desilusão do princípio ao fim. O preço é claramente superior à qualidade, apesar da apresentação cuidada dos pratos. O atendimento foi tão incomodo e frio que optámos por comer sobremesa e beber café noutro sitio. Restaurante, que pelo aspecto, parecia que iria ser, uma coisa sensacional... Mas, infelizmente, não foi o caso! Comida, bastante limitada, embora tenha lido, algumas coisas de peixe e algumas de carne! Bem, a comida o bife até não é mau! O espaço até é muito giro, mas...mas existe sempre um mas... O atendimento é muito diferente de todos os restaurantes que já visitei aqui no Alentejo! Cara sempre muito fechada, de uma antipatia, que até dói! Como é que é possível, fazer um trabalho, de um restaurante, onde falta a simpatia e um bom trabalho? Negou, mexer no ar condicionado, estava muito frio, não quis mexer, onde estavam, no mínimo menos de 15 graus! Muito frio, mesmo! Como não quisemos, entradas, não tivemos direito a pratos de jantar normais!! Podem até ter alguma qualidade na comida, mas no atendimento, a senhora é nota zero! Mas, se precisarem de ajuda, estejam inteiramente à vontade, que eu recomendo a escola indicada! Ainda assim, vou colocar...
