Lago Azul Eco Hotel — Hotel in Ferreira do Zêzere

We were simply looking for a hotel near Tomar, and this hotel looked interesting. It is. It is on the lake behind a dam, and the setting is beautiful. Rooms are quite large, perhaps a bit dated, but very clean. We didn't have supper here, as we had already eaten, but the buffet breakfast in the morning was excellent - a lot of variety, and everything tasted very good. The price when we stayed was quite reasonable.||||The highlight of the hotel, though, is really its grounds and the setting on the lake. The hotel is built well above the lake, and then the grounds are a series of terraces down to lake level. There are lots of places to sit and read or relax, a nice pool, and you can go down to the lake to swim or just to dangle your feet in the water. ||||It is about 30 minutes to drive from Tomar to the hotel. The highway from Tomar up to Ferreira do Zezare is a good secondary highway; east of there, the road becomes much more winding, much slower driving, and is quite narrow, but it is still completely safe and is very scenic. I went here for 2 nights for some traveling in the area and to bath in the Zezere river, Castelo do Bode dam. The building seems a bit dated although it looks like it got a recent revamp. The decor is still a bit off my taste, but it's a question of taste. The rooms are ok, with big beds, perhaps a bit oversized for the size of the room. But it has all standard amenities. It seems that all rooms face the beautiful river scenery. And that's the main plus, the location. It's a very pretty area with lots of water sports on offer. Service and staff are nice and pleasant. It took them quite a bit to clean up the rooms, but it may be because of the covid pandemic requirement because it must take longer now to clean the rooms. The bar and restaurant, with service à la carte was nice. The breakfast is reasonable. It has a nice pool and pool area that was a bit crowded while I was there, so I ended up not using it, preferring to bath in the river beaches. It was good value...

One thing is for sure: amazing location & stunning view.||Staff: receptionists are friendly but there’s only one receptionist to do all the bookings! - breakfast staff is very grumpy and needs to put a smile on and say good morning! Cmon guys! You can do it better! There’s one young staff to whom we complained about the wine that didn’t offer us another wine when we told him the wine he gave to us was not good anymore.||Pool: needs to be cleaned everyday, there was hair floating around...cmon!!! Basic for a 4 star hotel.||WiFi: WiFi didn’t work very well in our room. And there is no data if your network is NOS. ||Room: we spoke with other guests and most rooms have a view over the lake, how can you charge 10€ more per night if all of them have that view?
