Maçarico Beach Hotel — Hotel in Mira

We stayed here recently, very shabby, chips in furniture, leaky shower. We gave them our feedback - no response. This hotel is expensive but not worth it. My wife wrote to the. and gave them our feedback because they asked - they ignored it and did not respond:-

We have lived in Portugal for 7 years and travelled extensively in Portugal and stayed in a lot of hotels and apartments - we love the country and people.

We stayed with you because we were attending a 70th Birthday party nearby.

The price of the room (130 euros) was more than we normally pay and I must say we were very disappointed. The room was shabby with a lot of chips in the furniture which made it look second rate.. The shower flooded the bathroom and this had obviously happened several times before because the the bottom of the cupboards in the sink area were badly water damaged. Our view and terrace was surrounded by ugly concrete buildings and gas bottle - we could hardly see the sky. I know we hadn’t paid for a room with a view but we didn’t expect this for 130 euros.

I feel it is wrong for hotels to charge so much because they have Spa facilities but fail to maintain rooms - We would have been disappointed if we had paid 60 euros for this room.,

The Staff at Macarico Beach Hotel in Praia De Mira is wonderful and that's why I rated 4 stars. Everyone is very nice and professional, also very helpful. However the hotel needs a few things to change. The room has a glass bathroom with a sheer white curtain. No privacy to use toilet. Showering isn't a big deal but myself and boyfriend felt uncomfortable using the toilet to relief our stomach. We had to leave the room or sit on the balcony while the other was on the toilet. Also there was no shelf in the shower to put soap, shampoo or shower gel. The balcony needs a screen to prevent mosquitoes from entering the room. We wanted an ocean view with a balcony so we can hear the ocean while sleeping. But mosquitoes came in because of no screen door. The hallway needed more lights, was dark in the night. Also the breakfast was not the best. Not many options. A few pastries and the same watery eggs with mushrooms. I was not impressed with the breakfast. Also the laundry service was very expensive. I wanted 2 jeans and 4 sweaters to be washed in cold water. They charged 31 Euros. After that I had to look for a Laundromat and find time to wash clothes on my vacation. We were there for 13 days and I don't like to have dirty clothes in my luggage. One of the reasons why I chose Macarico because they offered laundry service, but I was not aware of how expensive it would be to wash a few pieces of clothing. I paid 10 Euros to wash and dry a load of clothes at the Lavandaria 5 minutes away from the hotel. The pool is small and so is the gym. I didn't have the chance to try their Spa. Overall I would not recommend Macarico Beach Hotel in Praia De Mira nor will I stay there again. Look into an Airbnb or...

Quite disappointed really!

Positives: Good room decor Variety of choice for breakfast

Negatives: You are charged on the day, which was a surprise because you are previously sent an email confirming your order and there is no mention of how payment is taken (I thought it was taken straight away). Because we booked prior to the pandemic and had to postpone, we really struggled to get the bank statements for that period to verify if money was not taken twice; Staff at reception does not focus on what they are doing/ your queries. They will jump from one client to the other, which is quite disrespectful; Massages are poor (but still quite expensive) and staff should maybe have some training or look at what other places are doing; Pool is small, water is cold and area appears dirty. Windows are dirty and should be cleaned more often. You are offered the idea of an "infinite" pool and jacuzzi with sea view, but your view to the sea is affected and the photos you take show all the dirt in the windows; Jacuzzi and spa circuit are closed despite you paying full price - not justified at this stage of the pandemic; You are asked to book a time for your breakfast instead of just allowing costumers to have breakfast at any time within the time opened; Car park is not included and is not visible from the site;
