My partner and I have just returned from an amazing week staying at Garoupas Inn. We arrived late in the evening and were warmly welcomed by Elaine who told us a bit about the local area and showed us to our room.
The room was absolutely spotless and had some lovely extras including a free bottle of a wine, beach towels, and a variety of toiletries. We booked the sea view room which was spectacular - right by the ocean with perfect views.
The breakfast was fantastic - Elaine, Duarte, Veronica and Noelia were super attentive and cooked a delicious breakfast for us every morning setting us up well for a day of exploring the island.
Elaine and Duarte were great hosts. One morning they drove us into town for a whale and dolphin watching trip, and even lent us an extra layer to wear on the boats as it can be a bit chilly out at sea. They were always on hand to share their knowledge of the island with us e.g., giving advice on the best places to visit, and the restaurants where all the locals eat. They went above and beyond to make our holiday special.
We'd also like to thank Veronica and Noelia for their attentiveness and for always making us laugh - they have great personalities and sense of humour!
It's worth stating that we travelled during the Coronavirus pandemic. Initially we were apprehensive, but we felt very safe during our stay - there were hand sanitizer stations throughout the inn, breakfast was served outside, and everyone respected one another's safety.
Could not recommend this place enough and we will be back for sure!
Obrigado! See you again...
Read moreThis is a lovely property with two amazing hosts, Mike & Elaine. While true - these words don't do them justice.||||We arrived tired and our gas tanks were empty. Elaine scooped us up and with her boundless enthusiasm, feed us an amazing breakfast, and got our batteries recharged for a full day. Mike quickly got us sorted with a days agenda of activates including places to eat. We had no idea that we had landed in the hands of consummate hosts.||||Each day began with a delicious and hearty breakfast, tailored to our taste, accompanied by an ever effervescent Elaine to bolster any flagging spirits. This was followed by the most knowledgeable advice on what to see and when to see it by our trusted island guide, Mike.||||At the end of each day, our two spent bodies returned to this little jewel for a refreshing hot tube to sooth sore muscles and a glass of wine to help savour the days memories. All enjoyed while gazing at the endless Atlantic.||||The beds were amazing, and the rooms well appointed and a comfortable place to start and end your day. The location is convenient with restaurants, and other amenities close by, but sufficiently central from which to explore the island.||||This was the beginning of a 7 week adventure and was the yard stick by which the rest of our journey was measured...some places came close but none surpassed! We can't wait to get back to...
Read moreAmazing place to stay in Sao Miguel - we cannot wait to go back and stay at Garoupas. The location of Sao Roque was perfect for us, right on the coast, with a beautiful sea view and just a short walk to some lovely beaches. It was only a 5 min drive (40 min walk) into the main city of Ponta Delgada so well connected but just enough outside that it was quieter. Having said that, there were some fantastic restaurants within walking distance and I am sure a few of the bars which we saw were closed (due to it being December - off-season) would be thriving in the summer. The room was fairly small and simple but lovely, had a nice bottle of wine waiting for us, a comfortable bed and a nice big shower. There was also regular cleaning throughout the stay. The real treat was the terrace with the most amazing view over the ocean! The breakfast was amazing - yogurts, fruit, ham, cheese, pastries, bread, fresh baked goods everyday and eggs and bacon if you want it. If you go there, request the peach cobbler! The best part about this place through are the hosts - they literally cannot do more to make you feel comfortable and help you explore the island. Make sure you have a sit down with the owner and a map, we discovered some real hidden gems thanks to...
