My experience at Granny's Farm was deeply disappointing due to a severe lack of respect for privacy and organization.
We rented a tent for 2 days. The first night went smoothly; the woman running the place was friendly and welcoming. However, on the second day, while we were out exploring, she called to inform us that they had overbooked and decided to move our belongings (bags, clothes, and personal items) to another tent without asking us first. This invasion of our privacy was unacceptable. They touched our personal items, including underwear, without our consent.
I expressed my dissatisfaction and pointed out that their organizational issues were not our fault. I suggested that they should have informed us and allowed us to move our own belongings. Her response was unsatisfactory, and she rudely suggested that if we were unhappy, we could leave. We agreed to leave on the condition that we would be refunded for the second night. She promised to refund us, but after two months of patient waiting and multiple attempts to contact her via WhatsApp, we have yet to receive our money back. Despite reading our messages, she has not responded.
I contacted the authorities in Portugal, who confirmed that it is illegal to move guests' belongings without their permission and that our privacy had indeed been violated.
It's a shame because the location itself is quite lovely, but the lack of organization and respect for privacy ruined our stay. Additionally, the tents lack any form of security, such as a key or lock, making it unsafe to leave valuables inside.
I do not recommend staying here if you value your privacy and security. There are many other options nearby, such as hotels or Airbnb, where you can be assured that your belongings and personal space will be respected.
When I voiced my unhappiness, the previously friendly woman became very rude, further tarnishing...
Read moreLet’s start with the positives: The property is beautiful, the garden is well-maintained, and the view is great. Communication with the host was easy and straightforward. There was a nice little welcome gift waiting for us, which we appreciated.
Unfortunately, the following points were disappointing: There was a very unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom at times, which seems to be due to a problem with the drainage. We bought toilet cleaner ourselves, which only helped to a limited extent. The bed isn’t breathable due to the mattress cover, so the sheets became damp very quickly – likely also because of the high humidity in the apartment. The washing machine and dryer are listed in the property description, but each use costs €5, which we found rather expensive. Additionally, the dryer didn’t work. The apartment could be better equipped in some areas – for example, there were no extra trash bags or toilet paper for restocking; we had to buy everything ourselves. The bathroom door sticks and makes a loud banging noise every time it’s closed.
The shower only stays warm for about 10 minutes. After a long hike, it felt stressful to know the water could suddenly turn cold before both of us had finished showering.
We understand that some of these issues can’t be resolved quickly, as the property is located in an area with high humidity.
However, given the high price, we had hoped not to have to deal with problems like the bad smell from the bathroom.
This review only applies to Apartment B – it’s possible that the issues mentioned do not exist or are less of a problem in the other apartments.
All in all, we unfortunately would not recommend this...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I had a great stay at Granny's farm. ||It's a really nice isolated place at the top of the mountain. There are 2 options : a tent or a studio appartement. We were looking for something special so decided to stay in a tent.||The tent is spatious: has a nice bed, a refrigerator and a box containing an extra blanket. And there was also enough space to keep our luggage and 2 big backpacks. ||At night it can be a bit chilly in the tent, but that's something we were expecting. But sleeping together + using the second blanket made it alright. ||It also gets pretty hot in the tent if it's sunny during the day time. So if you plan to spend a lot of time inside - maybe it's not the best option for you. ||The place is hosted by a really nice family, very helpful and hospitable. They even have a small bar at the territory where you can have a pocnha, beer, etc. ||||We enjoyed our stay to the fullest ! The place is amazing, and it's also great that it gives different options (appartment and tent)||||BTW: we really recommend you going to the LEVADA FAJÃ DO RODRIGUES WATERFALL HIKE, it's close to the Granny's Farm and it's a pretty eay but...
