BEWARE OF HOTEL'S SCAMMIGN AND THIEVING CARD PAYMENTS PRACTICES!! Absolutely not acceptable and I encouter this practice only in this establishment during whole stay on Madeira. Hotel is using a thieving card terminal provider and staff is choosing payments in your home currency instead of euros, which means that the provider is charging you a thieving mark up to the fx rates. Some receptionist, instead of apologizing for this and offering some complementary compensation, which I would anticipate from such a hotel, starts arguing with you, that this is not their problem, but the problem of your card provider, which is absolute lie. She clearly doesn't understand what dynamic currency conversion is and how payments in currencies work and what is transaction currency. She even showed me another receipt of customer from UK that was clearly stated, that "he" chose to pay in his home currency GBP (thus hotel and their terminal provider are using dcc and scamming tourist with thieving fx rate) and that receptionist just did not understand even to this and esentially confessing that hotel or their card terminal provider is thieving regularly from their guests. Such practice are absolutely unacceptable in such hotel, which tries to present itself as a four star establishment. Shame on them. In terms of food. Restaurant has some basic offerings. Vegetable soup was just terrible without any taste, fish was average at best, desert was good. Equipment of the hotel is old and the bed blankets are just terrible, old, dirty and scratching. Hotel is definitely not worth the price!! I would not choose it again...
