Casa do Manuel — Hotel in Santana

The apartment was located within easy walking distance of the town centre, and was well-appointed with everything that we needed to make for a very enjoyable stay. Our host (Manuel) was very pleasant and helpful and the view from the 5 apartments of the mountains was lovely. I liked Santana as was fairly quiet (except carnival day which was fun), but with plenty of facilities, including a large supermarket and numerous places to eat and drink. It was conveniently close to Levada Calde Verde walk which was stunning, and offered other local walks including some coastal ones. Casa do Manuel is a very good place to stay during your Madeira vacation if you are moving by car and don't care about being right by the sea. It's located a bit out of the way, so it provides peace and quiet and beautiful views of the mountains. But in a couple of minutes you can walk to Santana for restaurants or shopping. The apartments are modernly decorated and are well equipped, especially the kitchen. The apartments are clean and spacious. In the morning you may be awakened by roosters, but this is normal when sleeping in the countryside. A very big advantage are the very nice and helpful owners. 😊: Fast WiFi, various kitchenware, hot water without interriptions Location, bed quality and host communication were ok. Overall, it can be a pleasant stay in the right circumstances, but it wasn't for us. 😢: The property fell short of our expectations. The main issue is how damp it is. We visited during unexpectedly wet summer days, but it must be much worse in the rainy season. Everything that is wet, stays wet forever. Everything that is dry, becomes moist and unpleasant . You feel cold because of this moisture and a freezing cold floor.
