This hotel due to its view and location has a potential to be a 5-star hotel, but it is really 3 stars mostly due to its old style indoor design and furniture that requires renovation.
View 10/5 - really incredible view from the balcony and literally the ocean is so loud at night you might need to sleep in earplugs. View of the mountains is beautiful too. You can hear the ocean all the time in your room - really remarkable and unforgettable, never experienced something like that in any other hotel in the world.
Staff 5/5 - overall excellent, especially at the bar and cleaning ladies.
Food 3/5 - just okey, breakfast is like 3 star hotel, bar has a lot of good food options as well. Coffee 1,5 Eur, Tosta mista - 4,5, wine - 3,5 (all in €). I really liked the bar, I would surely rate it higher.
A la Carte Dinner - really great 5/5, restores my faith in Portuguese cuisine, for 21 Eur you get appetizer, meal, dessert and water. Tastes really delicious and unique and the supervisor Sergio is amazing and attentive. The food is served between 7:30-10:30 pm and you should book it in advance. It is much better choice than restaurants/ marisqueirais is Santa Cruz or around. See the pictures below. I never liked this type of dinners at hotels, but this was really a good choice. You should promote your dinner menu off season to non hotel guests, the restaurant in Vimeiro are not worth the money.
Surroundings 5/5 - I was here in November and during the week the beach is literally empty, bars and restaurants are closed some days. You can however climb up the mountains etc. It felt very intimate. If you have a car, you can travel to Santa Cruz or other locations (still very empty in November).
Spa facilities 4/5 - indoor swimming pool is huge, biggest I have ever seen in any hotel, warm water. Sauna is just okey - turkish bath and finnish sauna. Overall okey, but very outdated design. It is mandatory to swim in a cap - you can buy it here for 5 €. You will get daily new towels.
Rooms 4/5 - big rooms, enough space, but the design, curtains, furniture are simply old and makes you feel like in 70s. Bed is comfortable. There is a little fridge. You will get a little bottle of water every day. Each room has a balcony, which is great plus. My room had cello tape on the curtains and falling paint from furniture - this is hard to accept in any type of hotel.
Cleanliness- 5/5, everywhere very clean. Covid-19 safe.
Kids - lots of activities possible - there is some entertainment park, horses, right behind the corner.
Conferences - it looks like a good place for conferences too - lots of meetings rooms. Hotel is generally huge.
Parking - for free
I missed also a kettle in the room, water to drink in the spa area and a modern hair dryer. I missed some salats / veggies for breakfast.
Overall a great place to stay if you do not mind the outdated design and old furniture. I hope to come back one day to a renovated hotel. The view and experience of staying so close to the ocean is one of a kind. This place has a...
Read moreWe spent two nights on a great package for 55+ patrons. We paid a small upgrade fee to get a sea view room which we considered was excellent value. Overall the room, although dated, was very clean, beds comfortable and generally well appointed for a three star hotel. The quantity and speed of the hot water to the bathroom was probably the best we have experienced over the past twenty years of travel. The views exceptional!||Unfortunately the dining experience was not of the same standard. On the first night we were informed that the only dining options was a buffet. Not great fans of buffets at the best of times, we agreed after being assured that there was a'fresh' buffet for our agreed buffet time of 9.30pm. Apparently they had group of 80 for the 7.30 time option. We took the 9.30 option in these Covid times to avoid large groups of people. We are just getting back to dining and travel after a two year absence.||Well to say we were disappointed is an understatement. The food offered was appalling. The pork and tuna were just luke warm and over cooked from being kept constantly warm. The fries cold and soggy. Salads look liked the seaguls had attacked. Nothing look appetising at all. Hundreds of fruit flies buzzing around the dessert table.||We raised our concerns with the manager who tried his best to explain. A very hard task when you looked at the food on display. We asked about the 'fresh' buffet only to be informed that fresh food is only brought out when the existing plate emptied. A different stiry to the one told in reception when booking.||We would have gone somewhere else if we were in a city like Lisbon, but already after 10pm there are no other dining options close by. So the choice was now buffet or no dinner. We weren't even offered room service of a freshly cooked a-la-carte meal. ||After a long discussion, mainly with my partner who rarely eats meat and only white fish, we were promised a freshly cooked meal of pork and tuna. The chips were great, hot and crispy but the meat and fish just reheated, still only warm and very dry. A complete disappointment||Breakfast was a little better the following morning but very limited hot options.||Dinner the second night was at a local restaurant only ten minutes walk. Fantastic compared to our first night experience. Fresh, tastier and...
Read moreThis place have such a wonderful location. Close to Lisbon and surrounded with nature - River, mountain, ocean and thermae baths... Quite calm and with lots of activities to do like horse riding or enrol the kids club for a day to keep your kids busy. The three pools are also goods when you want to relax or when the weather is not that great, cause one of the pool is covered and the water is warm. The beach is small, not windy and crowded and have a few good restaurants. You can seat or walk along the river and watch a few animals. Or maybe take a bike or walk in the wooden paths that are close to the hotel. The buffet is good with a lot of food variety and the personal is very friendly. The rooms are improving slowly and some have air conditioning. It's a amazing deal for the price that you pay. I recommend it to down to earth families that have kids cause they offer a very good family package (breakfast and diner, one 1hour/day at the kids club and a...
