Park Hotel Porto Valongo — Hotel in Valongo

We stayed two nights at Park Hotel Porto Valongo as a family with two children. Overall, the hotel has several very positive aspects: it's conveniently located about 15 minutes by car from Porto, and the free parking is a great bonus. Even better, there's direct elevator access from the parking lot to the rooms, which makes arrival and departure much easier.

The reception staff were friendly and welcoming, which gave a nice first impression. The rooms were spacious and well laid out, and we were kindly offered two connecting rooms, which was very practical for our family setup. One minor issue: one of the rooms had a slight smell of cigarette smoke, which was disappointing in a hotel that is supposed to be non-smoking.

The main downside of our stay came from how a situation was handled regarding our dog. When booking through Booking.com, we clearly indicated that we were traveling with a pet. Unfortunately, this information was not transmitted to the hotel.

The next morning, we received a call in our room from the hotel manager saying they needed to speak with us. When I arrived at the front desk, I was told—rather abruptly—that dogs were not allowed, and that we needed to leave the hotel as soon as possible.

What made the situation worse was the tone of one of the receptionists or managers, who came across as very "bad cop"—stern, oppressive, and even a little threatening, as if trying to make me feel guilty or hinting at potential consequences. We were never informed at check-in that dogs were not allowed. Thankfully, another receptionist was much more polite and understanding, and simply asked us to leave the hotel quickly but respectfully.

In conclusion, the hotel offers good value for money, with decent rooms and convenient services, but the way unexpected issues are handled could be improved. Better communication with booking platforms and a more empathetic, customer-oriented approach would really elevate the...
