Pilgrims rest 6/Oct/2025
Arriving here was a hard walk uphill. We were met by lots of signs telling us we had to remove our shoes before entering. A little inconvenient, especially as I have neuromas on my feet and walking barefoot is painful at the moment. There was no mention of this in the booking.com details We were shown to our room. I'm afraid I was unimpressed. A double bed pushed up against the wall which means whoever is up against the wall will have difficulty getting out of bed, especially in the night. Towels for the bathroom were scarce and very small. I did ask for more and was met with a question, “why do you need more towels?" I tried to have a shower and was met with ice cold water however long I waited.
The best part of the stay was the evening meal and the company although it is a rule of the house that having paid €15 for a one course meal you are required to help carry dirty plates etc to the washer. It was slightly annoying that the polish owner sat outside the dining area smoking whilst people were still eating despite all her own rules. Guests found this annoying
The linen provided for the bed was old and lightweight making for a bad night's cold sleep.
I wouldn't recommend staying here.
I should say the garden is interesting but I didn't come for the garden, I came for rest and recuperation.
Once again, the company made the visit. I would say it felt like student accommodation from many years ago.

Read moreFirst and foremost Michaela and Fedra are wonderful hosts. They have good advise for the surrounding area and the caminho. But if you need time for yourself you can also relax unbothered in their beautiful garden. We slept together with two other pilgrims in a 4-bed room. Overall it is really quiet und you can get a good rest in the cosy beds. We also had a great dinner cooked by the hosts. The breakfast was generous and consisted of different partly self grown fruits, different jam, nutella, a variety of cereals, coffee and tea. They also offer cooled drinks for a fair price and a selection of mainly selfmade souvenirs. The hosts also keep the whole place perfectly clean. Our advise: Stay here if you can and maybe relax for a day before getting back at the caminho. Plan ahead and book your stay at least a few days in advance as Pilgrims Rest is...

The good : The bedding, bathroom, and kitchen are all clean. Check in was on time, if you're early you will wait outside. Appreciate the towel and security box and food and drinks items readily available for purchase. The outdoor area is very calming.
The downside: There was only one bathroom where the sink and toilet is as well. So a few of us had to take turns in the morning. The area itself has very limited food/supermarket options (the host does offer meal- one dish and rice for $15 I was told vegan curry-pretty steep if you ask me).
The host lives on the premises. I found it awkward when I had to listen from the room about the host venting about other guests. Energy is a big part of staying apparently- so def check your energy, if you're into that type of thing.
Other than that it was...
