My husband and I decided to splurge and go for Christmas somewhere near mountains and we decided on Lux Gardens Azuga. We stayed there three nights in total. We got one of their lux garden suite and we liked it very much when we walked in. Very big on two levels with interior stairs and a huge balcony with mountain views. The problems were only discovered during the night as the room was way too hot to sleep in. They have this floor heating but the thermostat is located just at the lower level where the temperature is cooler than on the top floor where the bed is actually located. All the heat moves up and is suffocating. They should definitely place a termostat on the upper level so you can sleep properly. We were struggling with that very much. The outlets both bathroom are not functioning. The outlet is only placed in the bathrooms for design purpose only. You cannot use them to dry your hair or anything else. Such a disappointment and inconvenience. During our stay we had the room cleaned only once. The cleaning was not done properly. They only changed the bed sheets and towels. They didn't washed the glasses, didn't vacuum the carpet and didn't cleaned the sink, nor did they empty the coffee machine. And if you think that we failed to leave a tip on the bed, you're wrong. We left a generous tip but still the cleaning was not done properly. We ate at their Restaurant The Lodge and it was a truly great culinary experience. We tried different dishes on their menu and they were all outstanding. To note, you will have to get the meats and side dishes separate and their prices are premium. In two, without alcohol beverages expect to spend over 300 Ron at a sitting and that is not counting the tip. The service at the restaurant was also great. The only downside was that at 22:00 they stop the ambient music. So plan to be there before that time if you don't want to eat in complete silence like we did for the rest of our meal. I really hope for their sake to revisit this policy and keep the ambient music at all times while their patrons are still eating and spending money at their tables. Lastly, their spa area is another big disappointment. The pool is very small and the water is not hot. Is lukewarm. The jacuzzi side is not working properly and there is mold on the edges of the pool. There were no towels either. So make sure you bring your own towels from the room and not count that there will be towels there even if they tell you they will be. We had to put our robes on while still wet. Overall it was an OK experience but not great. All the above shows that there is room for improvement and is within their reach to do so. We spent over 4500 Ron at Lux Gardens Azuga for a 3 nights stay which is comparable to any luxury hotel from...
Read moreThis review is only for the restaurant. We came there with high expectations, as the menu seemed promising, especially when comparing it to other restaurants in Azuga. However, we gradually started to understand how far their 5-star claim is from the harsh reality. Honestly, I don't understand any of the positive reviews, because nothing is 5-star there and the evaluation should be done on a value-for-money basis.
First, we ordered some lemonades with ginger, unsweetened, which turned out they were made with syrup. Then we had a cold cut platter, which was average at best. Really unspectacular and very bland in taste. Afterwards, we tried lamb chop with mashed potatoes and duck with red cabbage. The lamb was not very tender, although it was supposed to be slowly cooked, and the whole dish was drunk in a tasteless brownish sauce, the one you can eat in a canteen. The duck was dry, and the cabbage was sunk in oil. The choice of ingredients was obviously very cheap, and I think it is completely shameless to ask 18 € or 25 € for those dishes. On top of that, my wife found a plastic piece from some packaging in the cabbage.
On a side note, no attention to details was given at all: no design for the menu, no table napkin, the pepper and salt-shakers are your typical kebab shop items, inappropriate knives for meat and so on.
To sum up, if this was a 3-star restaurant with half of those prices, I would have given a better rating. But it's not, and it is shameful that in Romania you ask for 90 € a normal meal in 2, and you offer the cheapest ingredients, terrible cooking and no care for details. This type of tourism shouldn't...
Read moreThe hotel is located right next to the ski slope, and the rooms are spacious, but it definitely doesn’t deserve 5 stars. The pool is small and the water is cold, so you can’t really swim. The saunas fit a maximum of 4 people, and the entire spa area feels sad and lifeless — they don’t even play music. They provide only two 2-liter bottles of water for the whole day, which everyone has to share using glasses. In the room, they don’t even leave a bottle of water; the only option is a 0.33 L bottle from the minibar for 15 lei.
The breakfast is worth about 3, maybe 3.5 stars at best — definitely not 5. They only serve food that doesn’t require much cooking, things you could easily have at home without going to a 5-star hotel. Very poor quality, I do not recommend it.
No matter what we set on the thermostat, the room temperature stayed the same every day — 25°C — and it was so hot that it was hard to sleep. We definitely won’t be...
