Hotel Cerbul — Hotel in Borșa

Positives: If you only care about skiing and nothing else, this is a good option as it's located literally 50m from the ski lift. Also, it's an advantage that they have restaurant open pretty much every day from 8 am. We didn't have to leave the premises to have breakfast, so that was pretty nice.

Negatives: if you come here in season, prepare to always have to find parking somewhere other than their parking lot; people that are not their clients park in their lot and they don't seem to care. if you want peace and quiet, too bad, as a bar recently opened literally in front of the hotel and they are blasting music almost all day (granted, it starts mid-morning and stops at max 10 pm). some of the staff is straight up rude and cold; we honestly felt treated like refugees getting the rooms for free, even though they were paid 600 RON / night for 2 rooms; no kindness whatsoever, the opposite of welcoming, even mocking us on one occasion (one evening we went for a nice walk and when we came back, the receptionist asked, with a mocking tone, if we went skiing, knowing full well we weren't skiers and the snow freshly thawed out). the rooms were not in the best shape; cleaning lady only took the trash everyday and changed our towels... That's literally it... I did not notice any evidence of vacuuming, wiping or cleaning whatsoever. The dust was really thick in some places, the bathtub was filthy, a few crumbs I saw under the bed stayed there the entire 10 days and she didn't bother to replace the toilet soap (it was empty ever since we checked in but only noticed 5 days in). At least she bothered to change the bed sheets 1 time 3 days in. I could sleep in the bed decently (even though the pillows were flat and uncomfortable), but I found it extremely annoying to sit up on it... The upper edge of the panel above the pillow sticks up and digs your neck/head when you sit with your back against it to watch TV, for example. avoid the restaurant; first impressions were appalling, old decor, stuffy air, dirty table cloths and cutlery; lunch there was disastrous, our first and last, pork chops were tough and rubbery as a flip-flop; from then on, we only ate breakfast there, as we thought they cannot mess up eggs, dairy, deli meat, bread and vegetables right? Well, everyday, without fail, they STILL had to get something mixed up (missing/replaced item without asking first, different quantities than ordered, special instructions ignored). the NYE package consisted of playback speaker music (pretty bland selection too, to be honest), soup, trout and fruits, drinks, sweets, snacks. We already booked our rooms throughout NYE, so we found it ridiculous to pay 1050 RON (350/person) to literally come down to the restaurant to eat their seasonal leftovers; needless to say, we did not go; on the day of the party we were stopped by the receptionist to be asked if we were coming or not; as we were trying to calmly justify the price, we were rudely interrupted with an "Yeah, bye"... For reference, we saw a package somewhere else for 500 RON a person, live music sang by famous artists, a la carte menu and much more...

Deși nu am fost cazate la acest hotel, recent am avut o experienta foarte neplacuta aici. Am parcat din greșeală în parcarea lor pentru aproximativ 40 de minute, în timp ce mergeam la un restaurant din apropiere ce se afla exact langa acest hotel. Am intrebat personalul de la restaurant daca ar fi o problemă să lăsăm mașina acolo pentru scurt timp si ni s-a spus ca nu. Nu vreau sa neg faptul că a fost aici și greșeala noastră și ar fi trebuit să mai intrebam pe cineva sau să mutam mașina chiar atunci cu toate că ni s-a spus ca ar fi ok (restaurantul fiind practic "lipit" de hotel). Cu toate acestea, la întoarcere, am fost întâmpinate de un domn foarte agresiv, care probabil era administratorul hotelului sau un membru al personalului. Ne-a luat la rost într-un mod extrem de nepoliticos și pe un ton agresiv, fără să încerce măcar să înțeleagă situația (permițandu-și poate să ne trateze astfel văzând că suntem femei). Tonul și atitudinea lui au fost complet nepotrivite pentru cineva care lucrează în industria ospitalității.

Dacă așa este tratat cineva care greșește neintenționat, nu îmi pot imagina cum sunt tratate persoanele care aleg să se cazeze aici. Este evident că respectul și profesionalismul nu fac parte din valorile acestui loc. Dacă s-ar fi adresat frumos si respectuos am fi înțeles la fel de bine situația, bineinteles chiar si pe tonul pe care ni s-a vorbit am mutat masina in acea clipa 20 de metri mai încolo. Recomandarea mea? O vorbă spusă cu blândețe și un ton respectuos vor aduce întotdeauna mai multe beneficii decât orice formă de agresivitate. Așadar de aici poate fiecare deduce pentru sine. Concediu și vacanță cât mai plăcută tuturor.

Menționez că mai erau locuri libere în parcare, nefiind deranjat astfel nici un alt posibil client al hotelului sau nevoit să caute loc de parcare în afara...

The Cerbul used to be the hotel of choice for touring groups going from Bukovina to Maramureș. Meanwhile many more characterful and newer guesthouses have sprung around and the Cerbul has not seen much refurbishment to keep up pace. This is how we found a room around Christmas on a very short notice and at a rather low price, before a Rodna climb. The room was clean, but the furniture was rather aging, and so was the main feeling down in the lobby. On the other hand, the cheerful front desk lady...
