I had to fly to Bucharest on the 26th September for a 2 week business holiday. Due to the fact that my affairs were within Bucur-Obor Colentina area, I had to look for a hotel in the same area.||||||||||||||When searching area Hotel "Sir Colentina" came up, and I went to visit the place and || see if I can book a twin room. This was on a Tuesday. ||||On entering the hotel, a heavy smell of cigarette smoke was in the lobby area.||||The lady I met on that day and was behind the reception was called Simona. She was behind a plastic screen and she wasn't wearing a mask. I then found out that she was director of the operations and not a receptionist. She seemed to be very nice and polite, very keen to provide a good customer service to a potential customer. From her I found out that this hotel was own/ run by a Turkish guy. She rang a house maid and asked to show us a room to get an idea on how a room looked like.||||The maid who turned up didn't wear a mask and when pointing towards her face and asking where her mask was, she replied that she came out in hurry just to show us the room and that's why she wasn't wearing a mask. ||||We left and went downstairs and received on a piece of paper the details of the hotel and room prices, all written down by Simona ||||Although I was advised that if I want to book a room to ring the hotel, I didn't do it, and instead we just came next morning into the hotel to get a room. ||||At the desk was a different girl and she seemed very bored and a bit on the moody side. After explaining that I spoke to Simona about a twin room and I was shown one the day before she eventually said that there was a room available on level 5th, room 507. I accepted and have paid for three nights. Before heading up to the room I asked the girl (I believe her name was Umut/Ulut which is a Turkish name) to confirm there was a hairdryer in the room. She didn't know what that was ( a hairdryer), and then she just nodded "yes" like.||||Although there was two of us, I was handed out just one room key card for accessing the door. Went up to the room to find out the key card wasn't working. After trying many times, exasperated, I went downstairs to ask the reception to help. ||The girl at the reception said that she can't do anything because the card was needing charged and the machine who charges the cards ????!!!??? wasn't available 🤔 I never heard anything like that before.||||Anyway, she said that she will send a handy man upstairs with a master key to unlock the door.... Went upstairs, the handy man was there frowning and waiting for me. With no mask on. He was very unfriendly and very moody too. I showed him that the card wasn't working, he simply unscrew the deadlock and removed the lock and replaced it with a different one. Then he gave me room 503 key card!!!. I asked him how does that work???. He replied very pissed that there was no money for fixing things and cards etc...I took the key card, the next day the same girl at the reception wrote 507 over 503 key card .||||Whenever we would go out I would ask for the key card to be recharged otherwise we would've had to just stand in front of the door and pray for the door to open as the key card was just playing dead.||||Anyway, from that morning, for the next 10 nights, we had to endure a permanent cigarette smoke smell that was coming from everywhere ie lobby area, downstairs, corridors, terrace, and from the rooms where everybody was smoking inspite of the "no smoking" signs! ||The smell was heavy on corridors, in the lift which was only for 2 people, lobby area was permanently like a smokery, what was worse is that the smoke would enter into our room through a big gap in the door that runned from the handle down to the floor. We felt like in a trap.||Every time we would take a shower we would have the floor flooded with water from the bath ( needles to say that we were very careful not to let the water splash out the curtain).||We discovered that there were bugs that I don't know their name who were crawling everywhere, on the curtains, on the floor, on the toilet, above the light tube in the bathroom, on the towels and even on beds... Everywhere.||There were a few sockets unusable, a hanging plug for the air condition that didn't work properly, a bedside lamp just for design as it didn't work, a hanging curtain with missing hooks, a tiny TV who's remote control back was missing and you could see the batteries and when flickering the programs you would get them only working backwards, a fan in the bathroom was absolutely filthy, the holder for toothbrush & toothpaste was missing so we used one of the two glasses found in the room, a very old and very noisy hairdryer that was getting hot just in a couple of minutes, and I'd be afraid to use it again as it felt like melting. A real hazard in a wet room!!! The door into the room was very insecure, as I already mentioned a huge gap between the door and the wall with no chain, a tiny wardrobe with a few coat hangers and a couple of shelves, a smoke alarm that was placed in the ceiling just above the bed and you could see the disturbing light flickering even when you had your eyes closed, especially during the night, and no telephone.||The beds are very hard, I had to ask for a couple of blankets to soften the bed under my body as I couldn't sleep because of that, and the pillow is a very tiny one.||The maids are not knocking the door when you are in the room, but they use a key instead while knocking the door which produces such a disturbing noise. ||We happened to hear nearly every evening and all night noise mostly from men coming in and women voices, slamming doors and different disturbing noises. ||And the next day you could hear the house maid taking out the rooms loads of empty bottles of what was alcohol and throwing them into a bucket which made an infernal noise of smashed glass....||None of the people seen in the lobby and that were appearing as guests, mostly men, no-one was wearing a mask. None of the members of staff were wearing a mask. In 10 days of staying in this hotel I have not seen anybody complying with the COVID-19 rules.||||The hotel is very noisy during the day as well as during the night. All what you hear is slamming doors due to the mechanism of closing the doors as well as people who are non stop coming and going.... noise from men and women who come and go during the night, and men going to smoke on corridors.||||The Exit fire signs are in place but not in function, every fire extinguisher is placed at random and it makes no sense the place you see them. ||||Guests as well as members of staff in the hotel don't respect Covid rules and don't respect the distance as well as privacy and don't comply with the limit of the persons when using the lift.||||From the staff members I met: Simona, Ulut, the moody handyman, Cosmina, the maid who's name I cannot remember and another girl at the reception. ||||95% of the time you will see the receptionist girl Ulut/Umut sitting at a table in the lobby area across the reception desk and smoking nonstop. There is also a terrace on the left side of the entrance where people mostly smoke. A very unhealthy.||||For the reasons listed above||I give: ||||- nothing!!! for not respecting their own rule "no smoking"||- 0 star for cleanliness||- 0 star for compliance to COVID-19 rules||- 1 star for customer service||- 1 star for price||- 1 star for location||||*I do NOT...
Read moreWe visited Bucharest in May. From the airport we got a Bolt to Sir Colentina which cost 69 Lei/Ron (£11 approx).. staff were friendly on arrival even when she couldn't initially find our booking name, eventually found and given a key card for our room and directed where to go. Lighting and decor is quite dated and very very basic but it was clean. Our room again was very basic, and didn't look quite finished, leaky sink and bath when we used the shower. Only a single duvet available for a double bed although rooms were comfortably warm so we didn't ask for any bigger. No safe or tea/coffee making facilities in room but there was a coffee machine in reception as well as a vending machine. Free WiFi where you can get the password from reception also. No smoking signs can be seen around the building but there was definitely staff smoking behind the blue curtain inside in reception. The whole building smelt of smoke (not very pleasant when you're a non smoker.)
On the day of departure we were able to leave our luggage in the luggage room once we had checked out and collected them later in the day.
We used a Bolt again to travel to therme spa which was roughly the same price as from the airport as they're with 10 mins of each other.
We also got a tram from the main road 2 min walk from sir colentina which cost 3 RON (50p approx) to get to the old town and 3 RON back, about a 20 journey each way- you must get a ticket for the tram and then tap it once youre on the tram and select how many people are travelling. No-one explained this to us until the ticket controllers found our ticket was invalid because we didn't know to tap.
To sum up our stay, the hotel was OK for somewhere to stay for a night and was cheap and cheerful for what we needee it for. Would I stay again? - I'm not sure and the staff always greeted us and helped with any...
Read moreFirst remember this is a 2 star hotel so, in this context, I would put it above average.||||The biggest improvement since last visit 2 years ago is that people are not smoking anymore in the lobby! (well, mostly, if you come back early morning you may still detect the smell, mostly from the personnel that cannot be bothered going out for a smoke). I am not too sure how the other rooms are but ours did not have a lingering cigarette smell - happy there!||||Room has AC, LCD TV and an (empty) mini fridge but be warned that EVERYTHING goes through the master switch activated by the room's key card. We had to keep a business card in the receptacle all the time to insure the fridge was running.||||The complementary WiFi works fine and the speed is quite amazing (70+ Mbps). There are 2 stations per floor so signal is solid.||||We asked for a room on the top floor to be away from the street's noise but that was a mistake, the roof was getting so hot during the day that is was radiating heat well into the night!||||The bathroom and shower were clean and functional.||Windows are double glazed so is not too noisy.||The lift was a bit funny and one day out of service so at level 6 it was not funny.||||The room was serviced diligently every day, no fault there.||||Reception will print or fax or call a taxi for you - no worries.||There is a vending and a coffee machine (reasonable coffee) in the lobby and the reception has a fridge with some non-alcoholic drinks available.||||The thing that worried me most was that the hotel was not aware about our confirmed hotel reservation (through AGODA) but were kind enough to honour it, including discounted price.||||For us the hotel was extremely convenient located for the business we had to attend and we were happy with it.||||Will come back in...
