I'd recommend this place if you're on a tight budget. Since it's a super old hotel, built in 1910, it was well preserved, although the insides of the rooms aren't quite modern. Besides the tv (which is an LCD, if you're interested in watching that), everything else was basic, the beds weren't that comfortable, the mattresses were definitely old. The bathroom was alright, quite spacious. Not all the rooms have a balcony, and it can make you feel quite claustrophobic because the actual rooms are pretty tiny. The mini-fridge was working alright, no problems with the WiFi. The hotel has an elevator, which makes it easier for you to carry your bags to your room, especially if you're located on the last floor. The hotel is situated right in the city center, it would take you just minutes to get anywhere you want by foot. Lots of shops around it, pharmacies, restaurants, it's super close to the main mall (Palas Mall) and to public transportation. All in all, you get what you pay for. It's definitely a lot cheaper that other hotels located in the same area, the conditions aren't that bad and it wouldn't be a bother if all you care about is having a bed to sleep in, a roof over your head, and a place to take a shower. After all, you don't want to spend your whole trip in...
Read moreThere were not many hotel options in Iași at the time of booking, the only one I could find that was central and reasonably priced was Hotel Continental. It was a 15 minute walk from Gara Mare and I was pleasantly surprised that the hotel was located a block away from Piața Unirii and a short walk from the Old Town. I had a nice welcome at check-in where it was explained that breakfast was included in my room rate before I was given my room key.||The room was on 3rd floor and was quite spacious with a double and a single bed. It was old style decor and hadn't seen any refurbishment however there was a small balcony, aircon, TV and a full size fridge which made up for the dated furnishings. The bed was uncomfortable but with a few blankets over the mattress helped and I managed to sleep okay. The bathroom was fine with a powerful shower and there were toiletries provided.||Breakfast was excellent with a choice of dishes, I chose the omelette which was delicious, it came with a croissant, bread rolls, coffee and fruit tea and was a very good start to the day. I liked the Hotel Continental because the hotel was so central and the staff were very courteous, the room was very dated but I still enjoyed my...
Read moreBooked into the continental in the absence of any other hotels due to a religious festival in the town. I now understand why rooms were still available! Imagine a 1930s hotel that has had no real renovation since it was opened. If you love stale Art Deco style with dimly lit corridors, a strong smell of cigarette smoke in every room and a building that shakes every time a tram passes, you'll love it! Worlds most uncomfortable bed (your rib cage will feel every spring), no real duvet (just a 1970s bed spread) and the bed is only ever made when you first arrive (that's right, you make your own bed!). No bath towels, only face towels, a shower with no shower curtain and a bath with no plug.|Room had air conditioning but no way to control it, radiators stuck at whatever temperature they at when you arrive, and don't be surprised by occasional power outage (pesky trams again, lights flicker every time they pass)||I wish I was making this up, sadly I'm not.||The only highlight of this hotel is it's very...
