I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel, as I initially didn’t have very high expectations with the price being so cheap (in my opinion).||||The room I was placed in was more than spacious enough for one person, although the room had a double bed.||Everything seemed clean, and the bed itself was rather comfortable, even though first perceptions might suggest otherwise. I found that once I had fallen asleep, I didn’t wake during the night, and woke up in the morning feeling quite comfortable.||||The room featured a large wardrobe with about four or five hangers for clothes, and a few shelves. Inside the wardrobe was an additional blanket. As it was the peak of the summer, I did not need to use said blanket.||The room also included two chairs, a bedside table, a desk with two glasses, and a small TV with a decent range of channels. I mainly watched the sports and music channels, as most of them were in Romanian.||The bathroom was nice and clean, with a toilet, sink and shower.||My only issue with the bathroom was that the shower was situated in the corner and was quite small. I could foresee this being quite an issue for a larger guest, but everything functioned well.||||Overall I was very pleased with the room itself, as it provided everything I needed to a very satisfactory level.||The only things I would point out to other potential guests is that there is a cemetery situated behind the hotel, so if that is an issue for you, you may want to think about that.||Also, my room was situated on the first floor, and the window to my room was at ground level (behind the hotel), so I did not feel entirely comfortable leaving the window open at night (even though it was summer), just in case an intruder made their way in. The window however can be opened just slightly, or fully.||||I was fortunate to have friends who spoke Hungarian check me in and out of the hotel, but at one point, there was a member of staff who spoke English; so they seem quite accommodating.||All staff I encountered were very friendly, and I didn’t have any issues whatsoever.||||Based on my room, I’d recommend this hotel to others for a short stay, or just somewhere to sleep for the nights, and store your belongings whilst you explore the...
Read moreWe stayed here because it was very close to the center of town and close to the train station.||The room were just okay as it had a worm look and feel. Water service was interrupted due to a water main break, so there was no water for several hours. This was not the hotels fault. ||But when the water was restored, no water came out of the bathroom faucet. Having some experience with plumbing, I knew exactly what was wrong. We spoke with the manager and told him what the problem was. He said he had no one to fix it. We told him, if he could secure a pair of pliers, we could repair the problem. He finally came up with a pair and the problem was resolved. ||They have a restaurant but it did not look inviting. This was just a place to sleep and shower. ||There are other places that would have been...
Read moreIf you are looking for a clean, convenient and nevertheless cheap place to stay in transit through Miercurea Ciuc / Csíkszereda, then the Merkúr fits the bill. I always stay there when going to the mountains nearby, if I have to break the journey in town and cannot head straight to the beautiful countryside around where excellent guesthouses abound. The hotel is clean, rooms vary in size (avoid singles if you are claustrophobic), but the overall experience is satisfactory in regards to the price paid and no frill expectations. I have not used the restaurant, but there are better options downtown, which is a mere 10 minute walk from the Merkúr. Staff have always...
