Esplanada — Hotel in Tulcea

It is hard to call this a 5-star hotel because it really isn't, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a fine place to stay when you visit Tulcea. I took a maxitaxi to Tulcea from Bucharest, and the Esplanada is literally next door to the bus station, so it was an easy decision for me to make. The hotel's rear entrance faces the esplanade, so you can walk down and easily review all of the various fast boats and tour boats before you choose. The front entrance faces the downtown area, so it's a quick walk to restaurants, drugstores, cathedrals, etc. I didn't have a reservation, but the front desk staff was cordial and let me take a look at the room before I committed (Room 616). As other reviewers have mentioned, the bathrooms show a history of flooding, but I was just really careful with the shower when I used it. There wasn't a coffee maker or kettle in my room, but there was a small stocked bar refrigerator. I didn't have a patio, but the windows opened and the view across the esplanade and bay was always interesting. The breakfast buffet (included in my room charge) was adequate. I actually ate dinner there every evening because I was so tired from the days' activities that I just wanted to shower, eat, and go to bed. Unfortunately, I had an unpleasant surprise from a 4 star hotel, as esplanada claims. The check-in process was very fast and smooth thanks to Cristina and Ionela wich they were very kind and professional. The room is ok, is big with a large bathroom with cubical sower and the mini bar is full wich was nice. But the restaurant? Oh my God! I had to wait 30 min to get a menu and order a latte. When it finally arrived, It was without sugar. Nicolas was very unprofessional and also rude when I asked for his name, so I can make a complaint. None of the staff have name tags, maybe so you can't complain. The breakfast was a disaster!!!!! Only one coffee machine for all the guests even though they knew they have a full coach of tourists. An absolute dump. Don't bother. It's beyond disgusting and dirty. The ONLY good thing about this hotel is the blonde woman Ileana at the front desk who was so incredibly warm, friendly and helpful. Otherwise, this place is rated 4 stars and it should be closed because it's horrible.|We had arrived late and just wanted to sit outside and eat, and were told we could take a particular table because "that's where the owner likes to sit". Seriously? You have customers staying at your hotel and that's your attitude? The room: 1 towel per person, 1 pillow per person, a sheet on only one bed, one crappy wire hanger in the closet... crumbs on the carpet......
