Select — Hotel in Tulcea

Tulcea is a fairly small town that is the gateway to the Danube Delta. The Select Hotel does not seem to be the fanciest in town but it is of a reasonable standard - mostly. The hotel looks good from the outside and has a restaurant that can be reached from outside or internally. It has a small lift but there are a few extra stairs to get to the 1st floor after exiting the lift. My room was fairly standard. Not especially large but not too cramped either. It had twin beds, desk and chair, luggage stand, big closet and a couple of armchairs. There was a kettle but no safe. The beds had nice heavy cotton sheets and comfortable pillows but included some sort of plastic sheeting between the bottom sheet and the mattress that rustled each time I turned over. ||||The bathroom was clean and in good repair with the shower over a corner tub and ample hot water. There was no shower curtain resulting in so much water outside the tub that I soaked all the towels mopping it up - and I was being careful! ||||The wifi was terrible. Non-existent in the room at any time during my 2 night stay. The network showed up but always connected with "no internet connection". There was functional wifi in the lobby. I had dinner in the restaurant one night with reasonable menu choices and nicely presented food that was well-priced. Breakfast had the usual range of eggs, meat, cereal and fruit. Nothing special but adequate. ||||Working late 1 night in the lobby on account of it having the only functional wifi I witnessed a shouting encounter between the receptionist and a man whom I first took to be a guest. Later someone pointed him out to me as the Owner or Manager of the hotel. The incident was a bit disconcerting especially as the lobby is an open room so they must have been aware that I was witnessing the altercation. ||||That aside, the Select Hotel is perfectly adequate as a jumping off point for the delta if you don't need access to wifi...

We went for dinner because according to lonely planet it's the best restaurant in Tulcea. The last update of the guide is from 2013 so I guess that they changed the owner during this time because unless I don't understand how they can defence this place.

Staff: just one waiter speaks english, really impolite with us, we asked about specialities and her answer was very rude. Food: we ordered the 'speciality' starter, meatballs were just average but the other 3 fishes were cold and dry like being in the frozen from the times of Vlad Tepes. Main course one was a carp 6 over 10 and the other was another fish which taste was nasty. Environment: music was electronic and very loud.

Conclusion: an overnight kebap is a better...

Nous sommes restés 3 nuits à l'Hotel Select mi-juillet.||MEFIANCE!! Mon téléphone portable a disparu de la chambre pendant le deuxième jour!! Vraisemblablement les femmes de chambres font leurs emplettes pendant leurs heures de travail..||De plus, la réception n'est pas honnête. En effet, dès que je me suis rendue compte que mon téléphone avait disparu (je l'avais laissé sur la table de nuit), je suis allée à la réception et là la jeune fille s'empresse de me dire que personne n'a pu rentrer dans la chambre aujourd’hui car nous n'avions pas laissé la clé à la réception. Or, la veille non plus nous n'avions pas laissé notre clé à la réception mais le personnel a bien pu rentrer dans la chambre vu qu'elle a été nettoyée et rangée!||En plus la réceptionniste n'a pas eu l'air de se sentir concernée par ce vol le moins du monde.. Nous avons essayé de faire déduire le prix de mon téléphone du prix de la chambre au moment de payer mais évidement ils n'ont pas accepté..||A noter aussi que le petit déjeuner (qui est quand même facturé 80 lei, soit la moitié du prix de la chambre), est loin d'être à la hauteur...c'est simple: il n'y a RIEN sur le buffet si ce n'est quelques yogourts, quelques tranches de pain sec et une machine à café qui ne marche pas.. - et les serveuses dans la cuisine qui n'ont pas l'air de se soucier de l'état désertique du buffet.||En ce qui concerne le Restaurant Select, qui est noté comme étant le meilleure de la ville dans un guide touristique, il est certes bon mais loin d'être extraordinaire!||Notons quand même que la chambre et la salle de bain sont spacieuses et l’hôtel bien placé.. ||Néanmoins si vous y allez, surtout ne laissez AUCUN OBJET DE VALEUR dans la chambre (ni à la réception d’ailleurs) et ne prenez pas le petit déjeuner à l'hôtel ça ne vaut pas la peine!! ATTENTION: pensez bien à prévenir la réception que vous ne voulez pas prendre de petit déjeuner afin qu'ils le déduisent du prix de la chambre, autrement il vous sera...
