We were greeted by an old lady, the owner, and were immediately given the traditional local alcohol (tuica and visinieta), because "we looked so cold" (you can buy the alcohol in an amazing bottle for 50 lei, ca. 12,5 euros - the bottle itself on the market in Sapanta costs 30-40 lei) The drawback is she only speaks in Romanian and knows only single English words. One of our reservations didn't go through, but after a few minuters the other room was ready. The rooms are covered with traditional decorations which can be overwhelming ;) The bathrooms aren't the nicest but they are enough for the price (around 20 euros per room). We ordered additional breakfast (2,5euro per person) - it was made from home-made products (cheese, ham, eggs, jam). After the breakfast we were offered to try on traditional clothes from Maramures (free of charge) - and it proved to be a lot of fun :) Because there were 5 of us and she had clothes prepared for only 3, she brought her own clothes for us to use.||She is a truely amazing woman, amazingly nice and home-warming. ||If you want to see how the Romanians in Maramures really live and dress, I recommend...
Read moreThis is really an amazing place from where you can discover local traditions and cultural heritage of Maramures county. From savory food, Horinca, cranberry's palinka, traditional costumes, you will be conquered by the gentleness of the hosts. This is a family run business, so all of the products are homemade. We sat for New Year's party, spent 5 days, from 29.Dec till 2.Jan, and we were overwhelmed by their generosity. I wanted to take the opportunity, and thank them: Ms. Ioana, Mr. Nelu and to Marian, their son. They treated us as their own family members. Everything we wanted, from food, accommodation, drinks, we received, and we liked it. From there we visited:||1. Victims of communism's Memorial - Sighetu Marmatiei||2. Merry Cemetery - Sapanta - 17 km near Sighetu||3. Monastey Barsana||4. Slopes from Cavnic and Borsa||5. Horse riding lessons||6. Gravity Hill||7. Maramures village's Museum - SIghetu Marmatiei||8. Mocanita Steam Train -...
Read moreWe booked a room on last minute, but was worth loosing ourselves in Maramures just to find this place. First of all, Mrs. Ioana, the owner is the best. We clicked since she opened the door of her home. I felt like I've known her all of my life. From now one she will be the comparison for our next trips-owners. Rooms are traditional arranged, she has a collection of traditional pots and clothes. She even dressed us in traditional costumes and we made a lot of pictures. Wi-fi was working excellent, A small problem was with the shower drain, but I guess she managed to fix it. Breakfast that she served in the morning is Bio. All from her home, garden, her animals. Fresh butter, sour cream, bread, eggs, ham, goat cheese..we licked our fingers after that royal feast. I wish all of owners of guesthouses to be...
