Empire Hotel — Hotel in Irkutsk

It was all ok for a 3-star until on my last evening I bought the local specialty fish, and in the morning discovered a small paper sign on the desk saying I was supposed to keep it in a special fridge at the reception. Not only was the sign inconspicuous but a special treatment awaited me at the reception when I went downstairs. A woman who said she was the director of the place happened to be there and started an ugly scandal in front of everyone, chastising me for making them air the room now. She alternated between the versions of me being the only guest to aggravate them like this and the fish being a standing issue. I understand the inconvenience, but that was totally disproportionate and out of place, given that I'd had no special warnings at check-in and the sign card was small and one in a number of others stuck in a dark corner of a room with a skylight window only, on a desk that stands apart from the other furniture. Friendly as the other staff had been, I'm not taking chances of staying here again. Update: My colleague said he got shouted at as well. The towel rack is his room was above the toilet, and one of his towels must have slipped into it in his absence, so he was later ambushed by a maid. So much for the other staff's friendliness.

Oh wait: another update. Another colleague says he'd left his fish in the fridge at the reception, but upon his return home found only 3 of the 6 fish in the package. Keeps...

The Empire hotel is centrally located in Irkutsk, a short walk from mayor attractions.||The rooms are nice and I slept well in a comfortable bed. The bathroom was also good, if you subtract the in Russia obligatory cracks in tiles.||All in all a good decent choice, though nothing out of the ordinary.||Breakfast is seved in a windowless cellar room, which has a slightly strange appeal to it. The staff in the restaurant seemed to think their mayor task is to administrate the list, whether a gues is entitled to breakfast or not.||||The real downturn to the hotel however is the reception staff. I stayed in this hotel twice, at the beginning and the end of a round-trip in the area. On both occasions I was greeted by receptionists, who were convinced it is their task, not to welcome guests, but intimidate them by immitating the immigration services and accusing guests, that their visas or other documents are not in order. Accusing guests, that they are illegally in the country is firstly completely absurd and secondly far beyond the scope for a receptionist.Not the best business approach, if you actually rely on visitors coming...

Wir , mein Mann und ich , hatten in diesem Hotel für 10 Tage im Okt .2011 ein Zimmer . Das Hotel war in allen Bereichen , die wir gesehen haben , sauber und gepflegt . Das Personal an der Rezeption ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit . Der Weckdienst und das ordern von Taxen zu einem festgelegten Zeitpunkt funktionierte tadellos . Das Hotel verfügt über eine kleine Bar im Erdgeschoss ,Vitrinen mit Souvenirs neben der Rezeption ( die waren hier deutlich günstiger als in der Stadt ! ) und ein Restaurant im Kellergeschoss , in dem auch das Frühstücksbuffeet aufgebaut wird . Das Frühstück war gut und vielseitig ( eher russisch als europäisch ) ; nur das Brot war nicht so toll . Dabei gibt es direkt vor dem Hotel eine Brotfabrik wo man frische , leckere Brotsorten kaufen kann . Das Essen im Restaurant war genießbar , ||aber es hat uns nicht vom " Hocker " gerissen . Einmal war es sogar sehr enttäuschend , da mein Fleischgericht sehr ,sehr gar und dadurch, zäh und trocken war . Für diesen Zustand war es auch noch überteuert . Sehr nervig waren dort auch die riesigen Fernsehbildschirme , welche nicht gerade leise , ab den frühen Morgenstunden durchgehend bis zum Abend liefen . Das Personal im Restaurant war teilweise freundlich und bemüht , andere schienen mürrisch , eine Dame machte einen sehr , sehr unfreundlichen Eindruck .||||Nun zu unserem Zimmer . Es war gut eingerichtet mit einem großen Schrank ( mit elektronik safe ) in einem kleinen Flur , direkt vor dem Bad . Ein Schreibtisch , sowie einTisch mit Stühlen waren vorhanden , ebenso eine Minibar , wlan gab es auch . Die Betten waren ausreichend groß und es ließ sich darin schlafen . Nur wenn die Lieferwagen in den Hof der Brotfabrik fuhren , dann war es mit der Ruhe vorbei , denn wir hatten das Zimmerfenster zur Hofseite . Das Bad war ausreichend groß , verfügte über einen Fön und Handtuchwärmer/heizung . Die Duschkabine war mit einigem Schnickschnack ausgerüstet , der das Duschen teilweise komplizierte , da man leider an Hebel kam die man lieber nicht betätigen wollte und somit das ganze Bad unter Wasser setzte . Das Reinigungspersonal kam meistens am Nachmittag und war sehr freundlich .||Das Hotel liegt nahe der Angara , direkt neben einer Kathedrale und einer Schule oder Uni , in einem ( teilweise) Industriegbebiet nicht weit vom Zentrum entfernt und war somit ein guter Startplatz für verschiedene Unternehmungen .||Wir würden dort wieder übernachten !||Das Preisleistungsverhältniss für´s Zimmer incl. Frühstück ist ok . Ich würde das Hotel ||gern mit " GUT " bewerten , aber leider gibt es diese Wertung nicht und " BEFRIEDIGEND " wäre etwas zu wenig .||Das Datum meines Berichtes stimmt nicht mit dem zu wählendem Datum überein !
