We visited St. Kitts for a week in early March. St. Kitts is wonderful, clean, and the people are the friendliest islanders ever, will return. PROS: This Marriott is huge, lots of food options, we tried them all and never had a bad meal. All the servers were extremely friendly, service is slow, but we were on island time so it was OK with us but we met a lot of folks who were unhappy. |The grounds were always spotless.|The beach is very large, waves are awesome and there is a break wall to help with the breaking waves. Lots of chairs and cabanas on the beach, free for guests, but get there before the cruise ship day pass folks get there. |The pools are big, very clean, we never had a problem getting seats. Hot tub is nice also.|Across the street is a small grocery store and pharmacy, and there is also some shopping on the resort. |Bottom line is we loved it here and will return.|CONS: we didn't realize when we booked our Ocean view room that there were so many buildings on the property, we thought we would be in the main hotel. We are seniors and my husband is recovering from 2 ankle surgeries and struggles to walk distances, and our room was the farthest away from the main hotel, AND the worst part was when we got to the building, we had to walk up 3 flights of stairs. I think that somehow folks should be asked if walking such a long distance, then up 3 flights of stairs is doable. We were never able to go get a good cup of coffee or breakfast in the morning because we didn't want to walk the distance and climb the stairs more than we needed to. We have been Marriott members forever and did ask for a change but were told there wasn't another ocean view room available, which i find hard to believe because the resort was not busy. |Housekeeping: we understand that they only Tidy Up the room every day, make the bed, empty trash, but this was lacking --one day the women cleaning was waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs at about 5 o'clock and asked us if we wanted our room tidied? that was awkward because we were on our way up the stairs. Every day we didn't have the supplies to make a cup of coffee, we would ask for more coffee, we would get coffee but no sugar or creamers, ugh..again it was a far walk for us to get the good stuff. We left notes, told the front desk.|Bathroom-- my only complaint is that the jetted tub was so tall, i had a very hard time climbing over the tub to take a shower, and the shower was slippery, my husband called it a death trap. Issues another senior may have.|AC in the room- just awful.. the hall outside our room was wonderful but the AC in the room was always at 72/73--and the get this temp we had to have the blower on high which was like sleeping next to a jet engine. ||We will definitely visit St. Kitts again, and we will stay at this resort because we know now what's up...
Read moreI truly enjoyed my overall stay as it was quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Upon arrival while checking in there is complimentary Rum Punch or ice cold beers that are served. Getting checked into my room didn't take long at all. I stayed in a Guest Room, King, Pool View, Balcony (I still had a view of the ocean) and my room was modern, light colored and felt spacious. There was an easy to use coffee maker which I enjoyed each morning while I took in the views from my balcony, listening to the waves roll in and the birds. There was a full length mirror, closet, in-room safe, bookcase for storing items (I used it for clothes, purses and shoes). The Mini fridge was a good size for food leftovers or full sized bottles of waters. House keeping left my room beautiful each day and refilled my coffee stash and creamers daily. I ate at Calypso Restaurant each morning. You could select the buffet or individual plated meals, I tried both and alternated between the days. For LunchI went to Calypso Cafe where I enjoyed to- go Sushi and made fresh daily Beef Patties (they go quick in the beginning of the day). I also ate at Bohemia Beach Bar and the wings were my favorite from there. My favorite place to have dinner which was in my opinion, out of this world with exceeding my expectations in flavor, presentation and absolutely delicious entrées, was FIRE Steak & Seafood Restaurant. The chefs and staff really know how to impress the guests with flavors and it was my most favorite meal that I savored and enjoyed from my trip. I ate at FIRE twice while I was here. Both nights I ordered the Filet. I chose Blue Butter, Chimichurri and a Bernaise Sauce for dipping my steak. The Mashed potatoes were served skillet style and whipped so good. I ordered the Lobster Tail and with no exaggeration (see pic for reference) it was like no other Lobster Tail I've ever had in my life! Presentation perfect, tender, juicy and was the BEST I've ever had in my life and I live in New England where we are huge seafood lovers. We all thanked the Chef and his staff for such a delicious meal. The Caesar Salad and Coconut Conch Soup were so great as well. The beach which is really why we come to beautiful islands like this was the softest beach floor with no rocks or shells (I didn't need my watershoes) . The ocean itself wasn't filled with seaweed and wasn't too salty. The views while you're swimming are breathtaking of the mountains and landscape. There's always a nice breeze so you never get too hot. Take a walk and adventure down the beach. I hope to return here next year. The best cocktails I enjoyed were Espresso Martinis (real Espresso) and the Coconut Crush from the bar inside of the casino. This resort I felt is for individuals looking for real relaxation. The staff that arrange taxis for you, were always so friendly and kind. 5 star experience...
Read moreAs this was the first time anywhere in the Caribbeans, I learnt that no matter that it was a Marriott or elsewhere - Island time is island time. So it was a little disappointing that Marriott could not keep up with their service standards that we enjoy in North America. Our company, Express Employment Professionals, had a group of about 300 hundred people this past March 2018. We had the all-inclusive (but learnt that were a few exceptions on the All-Inclusive the hard way which I will elaborate. We traveled 24 hours from our house to their front desk and our rooms were not ready (about 3pm). The front desk man, (very pleasant he was) suggested that we go to the bar next to them over the other open restaurant and he would bring over the key when the room was ready (did not happen). My husband and I went to the bar, and waited and waited as they were busy but no acknowledgement was given. Finally, we have to make sure we are heard and ordered a bunch of sushi for poor hungry me and my husband after more than 24 hours of travel. Then that is when I realized that sushi is not part of the All-Inclusive and since I could see the sushi chef had only just started, i tried to change the order. The lady that took the order said that we could not change our order as it was in the system - I really never heard of that when you can see only the first roll was starting to be made!!! My husband was kind enough to let it go but after that I decided that it still was not a fair thing for us. To cut this story short, I called which took two phone calls and still no resolve at that point; they do not call you back when they said they would. But finally when we were heading to dinner, the bar manager did come over and said that they would take the charge off. We loved the deli shop as we would just order the food and go. Fruit smoothies and cafe lates with soy or almond was the way to go. For a quick summary and if you eat most anything, the lobster and the steakhouse and the Italian restaurant Porterhouse, Osso Bucco is the way to go. For the bars, you do have to shout out your orders instead of waiting nicely. I think this is the island way of life! And only if you chat them up, will they be friendly back to you - I learnt something new since this was my first time in...
