We found it difficult initially to locate a place to stay that was near the Capital of Samoa, Apia, due to heavy demand for a place to spend our ten days in the sun. It was almost by accident that we found the Ulalei lodge snuggled away just around the corner from the fantastic Palolo Deep marine reserve! We couldn't have made a better decision as the location is great as are the staff and amenities! We had six in our group and everyone in the group thoroughly enjoyed the friendly family atmosphere that enveloped this place! The rooms are large and the staff provided a great traditional breakfast daily including fresh pawpaw, freshly baked coconut buns, fresh local banana's and pancakes! Julie, Sala and Joe were all very friendly and helpful! Nothing was too much for them, in fact it was very difficult to leave as after ten days they felt like family! Thank you all for making our holiday the best ever! We will return for sure! Miss...
Read morePros: great location - marine reserve is short walk (and has incredible snorkeling), as are some good restaurants and bars (Seafood Gourmet - cheap, Paddles - pricier but great, Edge bar). Cheap ||Cons: noisy - security guard watching films late at night and walls/doors paper thin - had to get up a couple of times during night to ask to turn it down. Angle-grinders and dog barking in morning at 7am (lots of work being done when we stayed). Shared bathroom very basic. Lots of insects in room (windows didn’t properly close). Included breakfast consisted of a small slice of melon and piece of cold toast, with an instant coffee, though you could pay for extra.||If you don’t like dogs/cats then stay away. One-year old puppy was adorable but a bit much at times, and loved to gnaw on hands and feet. Cat enjoyed climbing up onto seats...
Read moreThis pleasant guesthouse has 5 clean, recently renovated rooms with shared bathrooms. Great: well- equipped kitchen for guest use ( fee ), eating area, nice lounge. Hot water and air condition. Good value! The grounds, which are in good order, are situated on a small road along the seacoast on the edge of Apia. Little traffic noise. Palolo Deep marine reserve lies just down the road- one of the few places in Samoa where you can find intact coral right on the beach. ||Some criticism: Curtains in the room didn´t block out sunlight. Some issues with insects. In the morning, staff will be around the house, listening to music, watching TV, chatting- don´t expect any...
