This was my first trip to Serbia...to Valjevo. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit -- the accommodations, the people, the town, the history. Yes, the hotel is old, but it's charm and ambience speak to the history of the region. I learned much from chatting with the front desk hosts/clerks. They were warm and welcoming (two with solid commands of the English language), as they recommended restaurants and various places for tourists to see. Our daily chats helped me to acclimate with the area. (I had a random chance to chat briefly with the owner and his son -- both, most gracious.) The hotel breakfast is like a hearty, home cooked meal. The location of the hotel is excellent, with historical sites adjacent (do take time to visit!) ...awesome restaurants, bars and great music nearby, as well. ||The walls of my room were freshly painted, and all of the upholstery was in good shape. The hotel provided laundry service and basic toiletries were available. I opened my windows early each morning to enjoy the gentle breeze before starting my day. The lobby is a wonderful place to wind down, enjoy a cappuccino and catch up on emails and/or reading while watching the locals stroll by and the children at play. Indeed the building has its importance and history, but as a hotel it is not improved enough. Our suit had a ridiculously big sitting area with a fantastic amount of furniture. (We joked that we are going to call a meeting of the socialistic party.)||Nonetheless, I could see the colorful sunrise right from my bed between trees and churches, and that's a treat. ||The plumbing is only for those of you who really miss the plumbing of the early 20th century, with visible copper pipelines and really old fashioned faucets.||Location is perfect. ||Breakfast is good and tasty. Also there are many good options nearby, if you want to vary. ||Service is beyond and above, receptionists are doing the best for you...
