I'll be honest. We usually stay in a 4* hotel. So when my wife booked this hotel, I was a bit worried. We had two rooms. One for us and the other for our son above us. Looking at the floor layout, we probably got one of the smallest rooms.||||However, the room was big enough for both of us and had a balcony. Everything was clean and comfortable. The shower was great.||||It is worth pointing out that the evening meal is from a fairly set menu. So if you are a picky eater then this may not be the best choice for you. I am a fairly picky eater. They do offer an alternative 'safe' option which is usually turkey steak if you don't like the main choice. Also worth noting that drinks were not included in our stay. So factor extra in for those too.||||Breakfast was fine. I enjoyed it. Especially the water melon!||||The best part of the hotel is really the location. It is simply STUNNING. Surrounded by mountains. A short 2-3 minute walk from the lake. It's so peaceful and like being in another world. Being self employed, a few times I had to do a bit of work. So I sat outside with my laptop and a drink. It really didn't feel like work!||||The personal service from the owners was great. Always a friendly smile and willing to help with anything they can.||||The only thing I didn't like and it's not really their fault. Next to the hotel there were some cow's in the field. They had bells on so all night I could hear the bells ringing as they moved. My wife thought it was very calming and like windchimes. She fell straight asleep whilst I did not. After the second night, we went to the pharmacy in the next town and bought some ear plugs. Problem solved!||||If you are looking for a small guest house with great personal service, in the most tranquil of locations then this is perfect. Local amenities are a short walk away. 2-3 mins from the lake. 10-15 minute walk to the camp where you can hire bikes/kayaks etc. And definitely go up Vogel. Loved it.||||Highly...
Read moreWe stayed a week at the Hotel Stare this past September. Very comfortable, traditional country hotel. The rooms have been recently and tastefully renovated. My wife and I do not travel light, and since we were staying the week, we opted for a family room with a mountain view balcony. It was very comfortable. There is no AC, but it was not needed. The hotel is on a street that ends at a trailhead, so there is hardly any traffic making it possible to keep windows open all night. ||||We did have one night when we had to close the windows to sleep. It was the night after the annual Cow Ball. Very fun Fall event celebrating the return of the cows from the upper alpine pastures. It takes place just across the street from the hotel, and the road is closed for the day, but a great time with plenty of food, drinks, local crafts, traditional bands and dancing. The cows do stay the night in the pasture in front of the hotel after the event, and you can hear them a bit. My wife loves cows, so not that big of a deal for one night.||||Very comprehensive and delicious breakfast spread with cooked eggs every morning. We opted for B&B only, but had dinner at the hotel a couple of nights during our stay and were very happy with their selections. Just let them know in the morning if you're going to dine with them that evening. When the weather is nice, you can take your breakfast and evening drinks out on the covered front porch and enjoy the mountain scenery and fresh air.||||We had never been to the area or Slovenia before and made our choice based on reviews. We have no regrets. The hotel and surrounding area is very quiet and relaxing. It is a great base for many of the park's attractions and trails. A lot of hikers use the trailhead at the end of the road to start their ascents of Triglav. We hiked every day, but didn't make that far into the park. The Bohinj area is definitely more rustic than Bled, but there are way...
Read moreWe have just returned from staying 9 nights at the Hotel Stare. It is outstanding. Wonderfully located at the quieter end of Lake Bohinj within an easy walk to the shore. The hotel is modern, totally clean with well appointed rooms. Joze and his team provide terrific personal service with great warmth and cannot do too much for you. As an example, we wanted to change our room for one slightly bigger as we were staying for quite a long time, and, despite the inconvenience, Joze organised this for us as quickly as he could. The breakfasts provide great choice and top drawer quality - much better than I have experienced elsewhere. And all for an extremely good room price. A great place to stay and outstanding value for money. If we go back to Lake Bohinj, we will definitely stay...
