If the was an option for a Zero rating I would've chosen that! They SHOULD NEVER EVER have weddings at this facility! The coordinator of the wedding was miserable and it felt like we were torturing her asking for assistance. There was no one there to assist when we arrived and that seemed like the theme of the day from the staff members.
It seemed like no one was on the same page. Being that I am in the wedding industry I know that at least a week before an itinerary would be sent. It was requested by the coordinator but never got.
We requested instead of a chicken curry that they do just roast chicken it was said that they wouldn't be able to do that they refused to accommodating to any request.
They refused to give any discount accommodation for the couple and guest which is a standard in the industry.
On the day of the wedding the reception staff were very friendly and helpful but when we got to the "venue" there was no one we waited for like an hour until someone had to go look for the coordinator. She then came back with one female to assist her. We asked is there no "man power" as we needed tables moved. The coordinator stated "there was a sudden rush upstairs and there was no one to assist" she was extremely annoyed with our request. She brushed us off and then disappeared.
The pizzas that were ordered in advance weren't set up when the reception was over and came in dribs and drapes . The stock at the bar was minimal and this wasn't what was discussed previously.
The tables were very unstable I requested before the bride and groom arrived for the table to be swapped out as it was uncomfortable and made a noise but was told by the male staff member "that's just the way they are and wont fall" and refused to help. It made a noise the entirety of the speech.
The Food: Salads: There was no Carrot, Pineapple and dried Apricot Salad or replacement as stated on the menu. Hot Selection: Malay Chicken Curry - Was not that - It was chicken pieces in bland watery sauce that lacked taste. There no sweetness as Malay curry would have. there was no potatoes or anything in this "curry". DESSERTS: The seasonal fruit platter: what a joke!!!!!!!!!!! The was one plate of melon and a plate of oranges! There was no grapes, pineapples, apples, strawberries or anything that is actually in season. I know for a fact that they had other fruits because a platter of fruit was order which had a variety.
The bride had to order her own meal from the restaurant because the chef refused to assist.
By the end of the night there was only one staff member and we had to help her clear up.
Accommodation: what a waste of money! We should have rather gone home. We were woken up at 5 in the morning to fire alarms going off the Wi-Fi wasn't working. Then when we went to breakfast we sat down ate. The breakfast was decent but then the front desk lady called me and told me only one breakfast was included in a two bedroom/ 4 sleeper. They refused to be of any assistance and the manager wasn't very helpful and the lady and the front desk to breakfast. They need De-Escalation Training as they don't know how to deal with irate customers.
Also the staff didn't do any turndown service for the bridal couple. Most hotels do that.
Everything was far apart I asked for different rooms because my mother was elderly and couldn't be up and down the stairs.
I would never recommend anyone get married let alone...
Read more28 October 2020 Me and my sister stayed there for one night on 24 October 2020 and I did not have a good experience at all!
Here’s a list of all the problems I experienced:
Firstly, me and my sister ordered some virgin cocktails to enjoy at the pool and the only one they could offer us was a virgin strawberry daiquiri. Why are there so little options?
A while after that we ordered our supper early, because we heard that the restaurant closes at 7 pm. I thought that’s a little early for a restaurant to be closing, but ok. While we were waiting for our food, one of the staff members showed some customers away who arrived at 17:55 and said to them that they close at 18:00, but Johan at the front desk said to us it closes at 7 pm when we checked in. After a while I asked the staff member where were our drinks that we also ordered and she said she thought we also wanted it takeaway with our food, but we actually wanted to drink our cooldrink while we wait for the food. If she wasn’t sure, why didn’t she ask? When we got our food after a very long wait, the chips had so much ‘red’ salt/flavoring on it that me and my sister almost couldn’t eat it. I had a chicken mayo sandwich and there were a lot of pieces of skin of the chicken between the chicken pieces. It was disgusting.
Later the evening we wanted to order something to drink from room service, because the options in the room were very little and not enough and the guy at reception told me that the restaurant closed at 7 pm. Then I thought, some of the options would be: How difficult can it be to make hot chocolate, he himself can make it or someone else that works there. If the restaurant must close at 7 pm, then put some extra stuff in the rooms of which one can choose, like snacks and drinks. Put a vendor machine in the reception area with drinks, chips, chocolates etc. and a machine that can make hot chocolate, cappuccino etc. Then guests can go and get something there.
The next morning at breakfast, after we ate our fruit salad that were so little, I tasted the fruit juice had a bitter taste that were not nice at all. They brought our eggs, but we first wanted our oats. After a while we received our oats and I had to ask for sugar. After I tasted the oats, there were no salt on it and I had to ask them to bring us some salt – aren’t this stuff supposed to be on the table? After we ate our oats, we started eating our eggs. One could see the eggs stood a while and were a bit dry and there were some water coming out of the eggs. After we ate our eggs, we then asked them for our hot chocolate and cappuccino. It took a while and when they brought it, it was in takeaway cups which we didn’t ask for. I had to ask for a teaspoon so that I can stir the sugar in my coffee.
I just feel that the price we had to pay and what you get, doesn’t match at all! And then lastly each time you had one of the staff members with you, I asked them for our next thing in advance, because once they disappear, they take a while before you see them again. There was never someone available all the time when you needed them. You always had to...
Read moreI decided to whisk my wife away for our 34th wedding anniversary, surprised her with the getaway at Protea Hotel(Marriot), Durbanville. Arriving a tad earlier we had a warm reception, entering at the boom, our accommodation was logged and checked, (Covid 19 procedures administered very politely) then went to have lunch at the restaurant. The food was scrumptious, setting idyllic and service impeccable, while waiting to get to the room. Great effort was done and long before short the front desk manager brought our key, logged my Prokard and indicated our room is ready. The restaurant service is excellent, room service is fantastic, administering and adhering to all Covid 19 policies and procedures. All staff is being complemented for their excellent service, they functioned as one. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one. The venue is superb. We will definitively come again. Protea Hotel 99 Jip de Jager, Door de Kraal, thank you. 👍 Your hosting is magnificent. A gracious thank you for going to the extreme to Zuko, for inviting us to have breakfast outside, most idyllic scenery, setting up and service par excellence. Linda, who patiently gave us the Marriot service, without hesitation and joyful glowing face, we are...
