Booked this on booking.com for one night stay at the beginning of a road trip to the West Coast. We were assigned a room facing the car park and the N14. It looked nothing like the website photos.
We parked in front of the unit and I already sensed that the room behind the thin, aluminium office-style door, was going to disappoint and it didn't disappoint.
It was basically a dark hole with a door at the other end of the room which was locked and somehow connected to an internal corridor.
The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that the air conditioning worked in the 41c heat, otherwise it was depressing.
We went to try to sit by the pool but it was overrun with very noisy people so we retreated to what passes for a bar in this hotel, which is actually their restaurant. It continued the theme of dark and dingy and a confused waitress who didn't seem to know what Castle red label beer was, ofering me Red Label whisky.
Finally settled for a Windhoek which was barely cold. As we drink our half-warm beer, I pulled up the booking.com website to look for alternate accommodation. I found a good rate available at the a-ha KATHU and we immediately checked out after less than an hour.
A waste of money - I can't recommend this place to anybody. Country Hotels took over an old, tired hotel called the El Dorado and didn't spend a penny on it, and it shows. Avoid at all costs unless you are you have very low expectations or are desperate.
I've just read some of the other reviews and I can't believe that people reviewing it 5 stars actually stayed in the same...
Read more7-11 Jul'25 Not happy with this so called "lodge" at all. Spent R16k for an entire week there after seeing online pictures and reviews for a business trip. Rooms are outdated, wifi is slow, NO not DSTV, only OPEN VIEW free TV, aircons barely operational, TV remotes are broken, taped with sellutape, in the 5 days our electricity tripped 7 times, costing my GM to phone desk everytime to send someone to fix the issue and switch us on again. Cold water last two days as geysers affected by electrical problems I assume, NOT impressed taking a cold shower while there in winter. Restaurant serves the SAME breakfast every single morning. They don't have ANY real spoons, not for coffee nor for your porridge, only plastic cutlery. The waiter says they don't replace it because it gets taken, absolutely ridiculous excuse taking into consideration we paid R16k for the week. We didn't even try the restaurant for supper. No braai areas at rooms, communal braai area behind reception dirty, untidy, and full of dust, AFTER we specifically asked the reception- "is the braai area clean???"
The pictures online & website are NOT what it looks like. A few rooms have been revamped maybe but we were pushed right to the back at OLD rooms.
The only positive for us was that atleast they clean tge room every morning.
I will not recommend this place to stay at until they get a massive management change and instead of pushing people into rooms to just get this "lodge" fully booked, rather spend money on getting them up to standard. Less...
Read moreThe rooms were nice, but I noticed that it's hard to adjust the heat of the shower. One moment it's hot, then the next moment it's cold like you have to jump around each time between cold and hot cant adjust the shower head. The taps in my room 23 were loose like broken. I could not use the taps because the whole thing turned 90 degrees.
It's really old lodge, nothing modern expect the rooms, and it feels like the place is slowly going backward even though the food was so dull, with no passion for making good food. Maintenance doesn't really apply there. The doors are really scraping on the floors, so when guest come in late, you can hear how the doors open, scratching th tiles, no quietness, and people run up and down at late nights waking you up or slamimg doors but I assume it's because the doors is scraping the tiles and can't close the doors properly. I won't recommend sleeping there it just feels like a 1 star lodge. It's like they gave up on investing to fix things. Very old cool 60s furniture in the restaurant.
At least the service at the reception was good and professional only positive thing.
And there are all over kitties walking around so if you sleep over perhaps take some food for them shame man there is a female there that is pregnant and she so hungery, So we took some of the dull...
