Garden Top Hotel — Hotel in Gauteng

I booked this hotel in December, and at the time it didn't have many reviews because it had just opened. I'm truly glad that I had booked this hotel for many reasons. This was my second time in Johannesburg and my third time in South Africa. My first time in South Africa, I booked at a bed and breakfast home in Cape Town. It was rated 4 star and it was great but not as Garden Top Hotel. What Garden Top Hotel often that this hotel didn't was the hotel shuttle, 24 hours security, and front desk service. The second hotel I booked in Johannesburg, which was my second time in South Africa and my first time in Johannesburg offer the pretty much the same service as Garden Top Hotel but in comparison to the price, Garden Top Hotel came on top. I love to travel and as you can see from my previous reviews, I have stayed in hotels that were great and some, well disgusting. Garden Top Hotel exceeded my expectations, they treated me well especially coming from half way around the world. On the day of my arrival on March 19, I was greeted by the hotel shuttle driver who was holding this large noticable sign that said "Welcome Mr. Wilson". The driver took my bags and I followed him to the van. Once we pulled into the hotel parking lot, the hotel porter was there to greet me. He took my bags and brought them to my room. Throughout my stay until I checked out April 1 my stay was pleasant with the tasty and hot free English buffet breakfast which consist of eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausage, bacon, chicken strips, beans, cereal, yogurt, toast, coffee, tea, juice, and water, the bar that has a great alcohol selection, and dinner which is available until 9pm which a select choice of African and English dish at a reasonable price. There are several cameras and security is onsite 24 hours. On the fourth floor, there is a outside balcony with a great view of the mountain and neighborhood. I also enjoyed the laundry service that the hotel offer and I took advantage of it. I had my clothes washed and pressed for a price of R150. Finally, the hotel is about 5 minutes from Eastgate and 8 minutes from the city center. So Uber is literally cheap to take going to Eastgate or in town to take the Gautrain which is another great choice as transportation. I took a lot of pictures but only allow to post 10 pictures. Went there as a geust of a movie shoot. The studio booked the set and payed a deposit after being 2-3 hours late and delaying the day. They did not pay the outstanding amount which is wrong coz they were late and used extra hours for the conference hall.the staff and the manager wanted to hold us extra people there as its was the studios responsibility to pay the rent for the day and was still outstanding. After alot of arguments they let some of us go. But the arguments continued. I dont know what happened after.

On a positive and negative side

The dining area is well set up and the bar. Rooms looked cozy with some warm carpets and beautiful beds and atmosphere.

The conference room. It was small, claustrophobic and is quite cramped with a shower in it. Otherwise the place is beautiful neat and clean.

The tiles is very slippery and not nice to walk as you slide. Wouldnt want to walk on it if its wet.

Review for Garden Top Hotel – A Nightmare Stay

I had a terrible experience at Garden Top Hotel, and I would not recommend it to anyone. My first room was filthy, with only the bed made while everything else was dirty and unkempt. After complaining, I was moved to another room with a bathtub, but things only got worse.

The cleaning staff is either careless or completely unprofessional. I went out for the day, only to return and find that someone had taken a bath in my tub and left it dirty. They didn’t even bother to remove the trash or clean the room properly. To make matters worse, a horrible smell would occasionally come from the AC, making the stay even more unbearable.

I had no choice but to check out early. This hotel is completely mismanaged, and hygiene does not seem to be a priority. Save yourself the frustration and book elsewhere!
