We had to make an unexpected trip to Kokstad due to a death in the family. The website described the hotel as a four star space, with wifi-this was the most important factor as we both still had to work on Friday (remotely). We arrived in Kokstad on Thursday evening. As stated in the title, the staff were extremely friendly, from the cleaning crew to the reception/welcome people and chefs, everyone was very helpful, very accommodating, I can’t say enough good things about them. The room itself though was run down, faucets were loose, things provided in the room (kettle etc) were old and untidy and the lighting was very poor. All this I could have overlooked as it was a rushed trip. But there were a few unforgivable incidents. Two out of the three days, I had to have a cold water bath, it was extremely unpleasant. I spoke to Rita about it on the first day, she apologised and said they would check it out and so on the second day I had hot water but on the third and last day it was cold again. Load shedding had started, when we arrived the lady who welcomed us assured us that there was a generator and that they only don’t run it between 10pm- 5am. We were relieved that it wouldn’t affect our work schedule. However when our load shedding slot came up from 1-3:30 pm on Friday, the generator was not switched on and without the wifi we ended up missing an afternoon of work anyway. The owner, Rita, was not as friendly as her staff, unfortunately, as our room was right next to the office we could hear her (and we didn’t have to strain and listen because she doesn’t talk, she screams) talking rudely to and about clients. On Sunday, cold water again. When leaving we spoke to Roxanne, who I think is the manager, I told her about the cold water and she was extremely apologetic. I was appreciative of this as I could she that she was genuinely sorry we had an unpleasant experience and if that was the end I would have not felt compelled to write this review. But that was not the end, whilst saying our last goodbyes to our family my husband received a call from Rita. I took the call, when I tried to tell Rita the water was cold again that morning she assured me it wasn’t because she checked and the water was room temp. I told her that may be but when I showered it was cold, she insisted it was not cold (as though she showered with me and knew). That left a very sour taste and we will never go back...

Just have to wait a few minutes before it starts up before having your lights back on. Don't get caught in the shower during loadsheddng, though, as you'll be without water until the generator kicks in. Heater blanket, aircon, microwave, TV, and fridge all provided for as well as a tea station. A decent experience over...
