Unsure is an understatement when I realized my friend booked us into a Backpackers. I love comfort and my idea of a backpackers was from Europe in the late eighties when students hang out smoking weird things in the lounge and you sleep in a dorm.||My goodness, what an awakening. This place was magnificent. I met the most amazing people, (and they were not only youngsters). Dorothy and Jeff were amazing hosts and he made a fire for us. she made salad and surprised us with a lemon cake as a treat. ||the facilities are very clean, the rooms were beautiful, with shower and toilet, they even gave us little anti mosquito tablets to use in the room in case there were mozzies.||The facility was great, check-in was smooth and the owner was so kind to drive us to the local cellar for a wine taste. We bought wine and were then stuck with the boxes of wine. he was super kind and even offered to bring it with to our town on his next trip.||This place blew me away. i will never think of a backpackers...
Read moreThe joy and passion the owners, Dorothy and Geoff have is so evident and lavishly spent on their guests while remaining unobtrusive. PUT ASIDE any mental images you have of the typical 'backpacker' accommodation. This is NOT THAT! It is clean, comfortable, well provisioned and managed. The artistic quirkiness of the decor, blends in with uncluttered simplicity on the one hand and lushness of the garden of the other. A real retreat. There aren't enough superlative adjectives available to describe the owners and the oasis for the body & soul they have created here. The attention to details covered, was way beyond the norm!
Having done some hiking in the area previously, we have a point of reference to compare to, so are not singing praises without foundation. Next time we hike Boesman'kloof, we know exactly where we...

It's spotlessly clean, caters for a wide range of affordable accommodation, the communal kitchen is well set up and excellently equipped. The host has thought of everything you might need for a shorter or longer stay. They supply bed linen and towels, and there are sufficient plug points in each room for charging devices. The walled gardens are lovely and cool for the stifling summers, and protected from the winds. There is a pool for cooling down and outdoor cooking spots for braais and barbeques. If you need more privacy, there's a lapa outside the main garden, as well as a private outdoor seating area outside the main en suite bedroom. There are ensuite rooms, as well as rooms that share communal bathrooms, so you can choose which accommodation suits your pocket best. They are the only accommodation establishment in McGregor that allows one-night stays. There is a TV lounge and fire place in the...
