If I had to envision Mellow Inn's conception - it feels like someone fell into money and has a limited concept of what class is. Therefore, they are yet to understand what class truly is - simplicity. And as relates to this case - basic good service.
The good: The garden is well kept and neat I applaud the establishment for having well equipped rooms. An alarm clock: although not set to the present date and time Tea, coffee, powdered milk, mugs, a plate, side plate, mug Bar fridge A waste bin in the room A double two-pin adaptor A waste bin in the bathroom A soap and shower gel stand A decent television entertainment offering Overall, generally clean rooms
I highlight the above because even in well established hotels, one may find some of these listed basics missing
The mmmh concerning: There's a tacky room with "Versace" wall paper and decor. The measurements of the glass door on purchase are still written. This glaring detail has been missed right outside the so-called "Versace" room.
If one insists on white sheets then they better find white sheet hacks to keep the sheets white crisp. Not stained. The pillow cases didn't feel very clean and fresh. I could feel the thoughts of the previous occupant.. If you know what I mean
The now off-white gown - which I didn't touch looked tired - worn by many bodies. Rolled around in by many couples. Refresh these. Again, find a hack to make these crisp white instead of cream like
I don't bath in public accommodations. I crouch and use the shower head extention if no shower is available. This is what I did in this room. I note the black bath looked like it needed a bleaching and a steaming. This should be done daily
The room had an offish scent. I don't know if it's the smell of the room diffuser. All my colleagues remarked on this offish smell. I think it's the diffuser mixed with I don't know. Perhaps revisit the diffuser selection and identify what's making your rooms have a musty smell. Could be you never open your windows during the day. Air them out between guests or at least on cleaning.
The black carpet with white trim was clearly dirty. At the very least, you can get the exposed edges professionally cleaned. Or purchase a machine from Makro and have your staff deodorize and steam it monthly. Just because it's black it doesn't mean we can't feel the dirt.
It's understandable to have a set menu breakfast to manage budget. But perhaps when people check in, get your guest manager to ask some basic questions:-
Would you like to eat breakfast in your room or outside on our deck Do you eat pork? Are you allergic to any foods? Do you drink orange juice? Do you eat sweet corn for breakfast?
You could even create a sheet (A4 paper cut in 4 or even smaller) with a checklist with all your breakfast items and let guests tick off their preferences. This way you eliminate waste and give people options within your options. Not give a full plate of food, which one may not even like then charge R 350 for it. Exorbitant and not even worth it.
Your receptionist lacks the most basic of customer training. Urgently send her for hospitality training because she can't even greet guests properly. You'll lose business because of her. We came in and said hi, she barely responded and her engagement skills are just terrible. It's not from a point of being deliberately malicious on her part - she's just completely clueless. Has this weird almost smile and look - I don't know what's going on there.
All four of us colleagues agreed that the rating for this place is WEIRD.
Seems like the intent is good. I hope this...
Read moreI must say that the place is great and well maintained with friendly staff. It will definitely be my go to place when I go to Welkom. I must also say that room 6 it's a bit squashed, small for the size of bed and the furniture in it, one is unable to move freely, 2ndly the toilet its close to the basin which is problematic when one wants to use it.
It will be ideal to have breakfast menu to chose from than having everything on the plate which I find it a waste. The chef is good though and has a great personality..
