A WONDERFUL STAY
Mountain View Guesthouse is an outstanding place to stay. It gives that 5 star feel. My wife felt thoroughly spoilt and regarded the room as exceptionally luxurious. Apart from the beautiful mountain view, the house is situated in a quiet and peaceful part of Vanrhynsdorp. The room was very stylishly furnished. The focus was on pleasing and spoiling the client. There was a coffee maker with some coffee pods, some interesting gadgets to meet the needs of your electronics. The cutlery and appliances in the room were of a high standard and the air conditioning worked perfectly. We were spoilt by the use of a generator to cut down on loadshedding during the day. The bed was very enjoyable and the lighting in the room was more than sufficient, as was the packing space. Sufficient sun entered the room and there was a very comfortable sitting section and table and chairs outside the room facing the mountain. Parking on the property was welcome. The recommended breakfast with a discount at a nearby restaurant was exceptionally enjoyable as was the beautiful facilities in and around it. Roché is truly a great host. He is responsive, gives great advice, he is friendly and knowledgeable about what to do and gave us great advice about driving around Maskam Mountain and visiting the Waterfall. Our stay at Mountain View Guesthouse and driving on the gravel roads around the Maskam Mountain was the highlight of our weeklong road trip. I highly recommend Mountain View Guesthouse, far from all the noise closer to...
Read moreWe were looking for a weekend getaway.. After some negativity in Klawer, Strandfontein and Lutzville we decided for Vanrhynsdorp and Mountain View guesthouse... The drive was cool, even on a Friday... On arrival we got greeted by Roche', the owner. in a very friendly way he gave us a rundown, how it works, what to see and where to go. We were hungry, so we went for diner first.. Coming back, we had time to talk to him.... Next morning we got an easy but lekker presented breakfast on the stoep, facing the most beautiful garden setting I ve seen for a long time... He even gave us a tour... A paradise in the middle of a desert.... His big, friendly Rothweiler girl and the funny parrot made the family feeling even more perfect.... The room was neat and clean, a/c working effectively and all the attention to details was just amazing... Where do you get different chargers for your phones in the room??? All in all it was a perfect weekend for us. We arrived as strangers and left as friends... So if you are looking for a getaway or a stopover on the way to Namibia, a base camp especially in spring for the flowerseason...this is the place to consider.... Maybe I...
Read moreThere is a first for everything. The Wright brothers’ first flight (glide!), the first man on the moon (one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind), and the first guest at Mountainview, which I had the privilege of being.
When visiting, you will be excused for thinking that this too might have been a trip to the moon. The wide barren plains - the Knersvlakte - could indeed pass as a lunar landscape. The red sandstone cliffs of Gifberg on the other hand, reminiscent of Mars. Close by, yet a million miles away. A place where you can let go of everything and amidst the nothingness, find yourself. Here you realise that nothing is indeed something.
Whether you are just stopping by en route to Kgalagadi, Upington, Augrabies or Namibia, or are out to enjoy and discover the hidden gems of the Maskam and Matzikama, Mountainview will always be synonymous with other worldly hospitality and this personal touch will make you want to return again and again.
(And if you come and visit between June and August, you might just find water on the...
