We were meant to stay over last night and booked online and paid in full prior to arriving. Mistake number one, and one that we wont be making again. I was glad to see that there was secure gated parking, until we drove through the gate into the parking area and saw that the second gate on the other side was wide open for anyone to come in. Before even climbing out our car we were harassed by a man who claimed to work for the hotel wanting to wash our car, either he did not actually belong there or the hotel doesn't mind their staff looking like vagrants. This was already annoying as we didn't come all this way to be bothered for money. It was already a concern that the open gate meant that anyone had access to the side of the hotel with the rooms as the door was permanently unlocked. While unlocking our room, I could already smell the damp/mildew through my multi-layer mask, which already wasn't a good sign. The room looked like we were booked into a cheap, dirty motel. Aside from the horrifically outdated fixtures, and the bathroom that was in desperate need of a revamp, the mildew smell was overwhelming, and it smelt like the room hadn't been aired in weeks. There was black mold on the bathroom roof (This is just unacceptable, and as someone with a severe mold allergy, this wasn't something that could be overlooked.) The cleanliness of the bedding was also questionable. There was a strange 1/4 filled water bottle in the cupboard of "Emergency tap water" that said cant be drunk, this raises a few questions like "What exactly would we need this for?" and, "If we did need it, how long has it been sitting here and what have previous visitors done to it?" Since that raised the concern for the drinkability of the water, we also found our water jug and kettle were both empty. There was also no soap in the bathrooms. I say bathrooms because we were able to walk straight into our neighbors (unoccupied) bedroom via the strange flimsy door in our room to check if they maybe just forgot to put soap in our room (I'm sorry, but how on earth is one supposed to sleep comfortably or leave any of their belongings in the room if their neighbor can just decide to unlock their door and walk in?) There was no privacy as we could hear absolutely everything going on in the other rooms. We had intended to have dinner at the restaurant and had already paid for breakfast when we booked, but to find out that during an actual pandemic, they were serving a buffet? Not a chance were we going to risk our health for a meal. We had to make the decision to leave, forfeiting the R900 we had paid upfront, and try and find somewhere else to stay for the night, with the closest availability being all the way in Citrusdal, and it was already 6:30 in the evening. We have stayed in much cheaper accommodation over the years and received far better service. We were hardly expecting the Hilton Hotel, but this was just too much. In all our travels we have never had to leave without even sticking it out for the night. Overall incredibly disappointed with the place, and the fact that we wound up having to miss dinner just to get to a decent room for the night (As well as pay another night's rate). The reception staff were very friendly and I felt too bad to fight with them about refunds etc, it's not their fault after all and there was no way that they could make the situation better, but it looks like management needs to step up...

Nestled in the picturesque Namakwa district, Namakwa Lodge offers a serene retreat for travelers. The lodge is surrounded by the natural beauty of the region, making it an ideal stopover for those exploring the area.
The check-in process is seamless, thanks to the efficient and friendly staff who ensure a warm welcome.
The rooms are clean and well-maintained, though they have a slightly dated charm and flooring noisy wood. Decor dated and mosquitos are definately present. Despite this, the comfort and tranquility they offer make it a pleasant place to rest before continuing your journey.
Overall, Namakwa Lodge is a great choice for a restful break, providing a comfortable stay with excellent service in a...
Read moreThe room was neat and clean and had everything you need, but has a lot of wear and tear. The water pressure in the cold shower tap was so low, had to turn the tap about 20 times to get more water and the hot water tap took forever to get warm. There's also a window in the door and the light in the passage is still lighting up the room.
I got a room close to the bar, so the smoke is also coming into the room (although its a non-smoking room) and it was SUPER noisy, and people still shouting at each other LONG after 24h00 and waking you up every few minutes. This is really annoying and unacceptable - hence the 1-rating. After a long day's drive, you just want some peace and quiet..in which case this is not the right...
