Nandina Cottages & Self Catering — Hotel in Mbombela

If you’re in the cottage we were in (the Rose Cottage) you get to hear the entire occupancy of the cottage next door talk, do their ablutions, and make noises that literally make you want to vomit when they wake you up at 5am to use their toilet which is an outhouse that backs onto your cottage. I think I had a total of 8 hours sleep in the 3 nights I stayed there. The photos are clinically correct, but very misleading. The bed is so worn I found myself fighting gravity to avoid colliding with my wife in the middle of the night. Pillows are hard. Toilet in our bedroom has a sliding door with a wide gap top and bottom, so if hearing and smelling your partner poop is your thing, great, but I found myself harboring 3 days of constipation. You can’t bath so don’t get excited by the picture of the bath - they’ve taken the plug away. If you do manage to cheat the system, you have to get your clothes wet to fill the bath up, because that’s where they put the taps.
