Good Ambience in an Oldish Hotel with a large garden Our family of 3 adults and two children checked in to two rooms at 3 star rated Elephant Lake Hotel at St Lucia at about 1500 on 3rd March 2019. I t was an oldish hotel. We were welcomed on arrival and rooms allocated expeditiously on the first floor by the courteous, pleasant receptionist. The TRIP ADVISOR certificate was on prominent display at the reception. There is no lift. Our room was quite spacious with twin beds, clean and neat with white bedding. It was airconditioned with a tv, a cupboard for clothes, large table with two chairs, hair drier and a kettle with tea/coffee. There was no fridge and no free bottles of water. The bathroom was clean too with hot water shower, soap and shampoo along with shower caps. The little patio outside, with a table and two chairs, overlooked the swimming pool. No WiFi in the rooms, but available in common areas. The air conditioner in our room was defective and we were promptly allocated another room. The extensive hotel garden boasted of a swimming pool beckoning us with its blue waters. The children were happy and enjoyed spending time there through it was quite cold and windy in the evening. We had a light dinner at Hippo Restaurant in ELEPHANT LAKE hotel from their a-la-carte menu. The staff were courteous and helpful with the food being served without delay, probably because there were only a few dining. We agreed that the food tasted average. The restaurant closes at 2100 hrs. Spirits, beer and wines are available at the Sunset Bar on the first floor and also in the dining room. We were fortunate to see a Hippo in the garden near the swimming pool and restaurant. Apparently, it comes there regularly to feed on the rich grass in the garden. The cordial friendly waitress, when I was at dinner, told me that the hippo does his part in mowing the lawn almost every evening! The buffet breakfast on 4/2 was good, with a wide choice of standard breakfast items. There is access for wheelchair persons.

I enjoyed my time in St Lucia and the Elephant 🐘 Lake Hotel. Let me start with the downers... Breakfast was my downer 😳but not because it tasted bad, I just wish they had more options for vegetarians. My Omelette needed mushrooms as just having tomato & onion in omelette didn't quite hit the spot. Room 6 had a dripping tap by sink & room 4 sliding door lock was damaged & not locking properly. 🤔 Luckily it's a safe neighbourhood but they need to repair the sliding door. TV 📺 only had 1 channel but I wasn't there for TV anyway because I was Too tired from drive. Service from staff was super nice 😍 Location of hotel proved a slight challenge but no-one owed me a hotel visible from Main Road. Google Maps really helped in specifying that "turn left and it'll be on my right" comment... But then again, I was probably fatigued from drive down to notice obvious signs leading up to hotel door. Beautiful location Beautiful rooms Beautiful gardens Beautiful water as well. Beautiful temperature for 6am 🏊🏾‍♂️ swim. Hoping to be back in St Lucia before years end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A stay at Elephant Lake Hotel feels like stepping into the rhythm of St Lucia itself. Waking up to the sound of hippos in the estuary and watching the sun dip behind the water from the deck is an experience you simply can’t get anywhere else. The hotel has that rare mix of comfort and adventure — neat, spacious rooms for a good night’s rest, and a location that keeps you close to the wild magic of iSimangaliso. What really makes the stay memorable is the people: the staff are genuinely warm and helpful, always ready with local tips or a friendly chat. After a day exploring Hluhluwe or cruising the estuary, relaxing by the pool or in the garden feels like the perfect ending. If St Lucia is the gateway to adventure, Elephant Lake Hotel is the key. Dingy, expensive and Not suitable for families with Kids-Terrible||||This place is the biggest disappointment , rooms are tacky , old linen, filthy grubby bathroom, Torn pillow cases, torn ironing board with the timber showing. ||We were charged full price for an additional linked room for a 6 year old and 9 year old. The kids never slept in the spare room at all. They point blank refused to have our kids share a room with us like the garden court. Altogether we paid R5160 for 2 nights which is more than twice the price we pay at a garden court family room . At breakfast , my kids ate nothing and on both occasions we were forbidden from packing even what was in their plates for the kids. When asked if they were going to throw away what’s in their plates since the kids haven’t touched it, the answer was “ YES” on two occasions and they unfortunateky can’t allow us to even take a toast for my 6 year old. I understand that the tourism Industry took a knock during covid but this is daylight robbery. The towels are disgustingly tired, carpets need cleaning , iron does not heat up sufficiently to iron even a tshirt , tatty torn ironing board. Yes this is 3 star, but the price is premium if you are travelling with your kids. Full price for kids in a whole room At such a high price for a dingy place like this( see attached pics) Completely not accommodating, complete waste on money. Avoid at all cost!!!!||||Consider the R5160 that was paid for 2 nights and look at the pics attached. Then go into Tao go suns website see the price for a family room for 2 adults and 2 children. It’s mostly half at most of their hotels. ||||The only good thing was the gentleman at checkin, warm and friendly. All of the above issues lie with management....

When we got to the reception our booking was captured incorrectly on their system it said we only booked bed and breakfast not dinner, the lady who captured our booking had already left they called her she confirmed we have added dinner as well. Our dinner alone costed R300 and some change but no bevarage on that package, we weren't told about that to our surprise we Rudi said we can add drink their cans start from R25, he was not helpful we opted to have unhappy customers rather than fixing their fault. We ended up getting drinks at spar tops just around the corner where 1l coke was R13. 00 In the rooms there is no microwave, bar fridge and the air corn was not as effective as it should have been. Worse part no wifi, Rudi will manipulate you whilst you at the reception area and say it is connected as soon as you go upstairs no connection at all, I was in room 35. Even when we asked Rudi who is a manager to assist where were unsatisfied he said the hotel cannot spend on fixing the staff errors if it was to that then they will loose money, as a result they have lost me as a customer. 6.it would have been fair if they offered us 1 can of drink and be honest about their wifi, not give us logins when you know it's...
