We stayed over one night on the way to Namibia. Even in making the reservation, the owner MD, called me immediately to clarify some questions. WE ended up speaking for half an hour and I felt I had made a new friend. When we arrive, the owner’s son, Ruan greeted us, showed us our room and made us extremely welcome. The room had everything we needed, including heating for a cold night. The only minor issue was that the shower pressure was a bit low.||We had dinner in the small restaurant. We both had lamb chops, which is one of their signature dishes. This might have been the best lamb i have ever eaten, which makes sense as, in this arid environment, sheep are about all that can be farmed. They use local, Namakwaland lamb which has a differnt flavour than the other South Africa delicacy, Karoo lamb. Again the food wasn’t fancy but, OMG, outstanding. Ruan chatted with us and made us feel extremely welcome||The next morning, we hung out in the restaurant while wait8ng for some friends to catch up and have breakfast. The owner’s daughter in law, Dani was our host. Awesome host and great basic breakfast. Again, just that feeling of being at home.||While we hadn’t planned it, we needed to stay in springbok on the return. I called MD but they were full so he offered to make arrangements for four of us. He did. We ended up having a long supper and chatting with him. All were happy and, of note was the vegetarian Pasta dish for one friend which he said was excellent and my venison shepherds pie which contained shredded rather than minced meat and was sublime.||The evening ended with MDs Buchu Brandy which is an acquired taste but what a great evening||I honestly recommend this place as home away from home. Nothing fancy, very good food, decent accommodation and friendly...
Read moreThis is a horrible restaurant to choose to have breakfast. We ordered our hot beverages, and IT took very long which resulted in them popping in the cups into the microwave leaving the cups very hot and the beverages tasting bad. Because we were very hungry and are traveling, we preceeded in ordering the breakfast. It also took very long for a very simple breakfast. I had the Herb garden breakfast which was 2 eggs, bacon, 1 slice of toast and ice cold tomato. The bacon was super rubbery. Definitely defrosted in the microwave and maybe even cooked in the microwave too. 2nd breakfast was the keto breakfast which had poached eggs on a bed of mushrooms and smoked salmon. The eggs were not poached but boiled, VERY watery and the sauce over the poached eggs were definitely packages sauce, which was disgusting and not a bed if mushrooms rather mushrooms cut up and thrown around the sauce. NOT RECOMMENDED TO EAT. Beware tourist as this is not the restaurant to go to for good food which Springbok has a good...
Read moreDespite a bit of a hiccup at check-in (the doors were closed and there was a booking.com mix-up), the owner was incredibly friendly and helpful once we reached him on his mobile. He quickly sorted everything out, and we were pleasantly surprised by what awaited us!
Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, complete with a little kitchenette (with a percolator, no less!), a large bathroom, and even a glass of sherry to warm us up – such a thoughtful touch. The TV came with Netflix too, perfect for a cozy night in. For the price we paid, we were honestly blown away by the comfort and quality.
A great place to stay when travelling to or from Namibia. It’s just a pity the restaurant was closed (it was a Sunday), but we’ll definitely stop by again next time we pass...
