This is located within a private reserve. While smaller than the main Kruger park (KNP), wildlife sightings were more plentiful, and you can also still access KNP via a bridge (you would need to pay an additional entry fee to the larger park)
The place itself is expansive, with 5 rooms accommodating up to 10pax. The kitchen is well appointed and has all the crockery you'd need - just bring all the food and condiments (oil, salt and pepper included) with you for the full duration of your stay, so you wouldn't need to make multiple trips out.
Each room comes with a large bathtub, shower and outdoor shower, as well as his and hers sinks and air conditioning.
The pool is of a decent size. It isn't the cleanest, but it's definitely good for a swim.
We saw some warthogs and springbok from the pool area, but none of the big 5 came close during our 3 nights' stay. Monkeys sometimes visit and we were told to keep all doors closed, as they can really mess up the place once they get indoors.
Load shedding is a regular feature here, and they have torches to accommodate this - though it would be even better if they had a generator during such moments (and which is why I didn't give a full 5 stars).
Laundry service is great - this is free and available every morning. We also left our dishes in the sink after dinners as the housekeeping staff were able to help us wash these (we washed our lunch plates on our own).
Loddy, our guide attached to the lodge, was always available for game drives - these are twice a day, starting at 7am and then again at 3pm, each lasting 3hrs (unless you are doing KNP, which is half a day).
All in, my 5 friends and I would recommend this place as an ideal location for enjoying the safari as well as returning daily to a comfortable, stylish place of rest. The great price for a 6 person stay was also a key compelling factor.
Giraffes, rhinos, elephants, lions, crocodiles, buffalo, wildebeest, warthogs, zebras and springbok were the animals we saw during our safari trips - missing out only on the elusive leopard and pack...
Read moreGary and Jovi are the most incrediable hosts and humans I have ever met. We booked the entire lodge for our elopement and were treated like family. We were taken on two safaris, and Gary helped us pick the perfect spot for our ceremony. The lodge is something out of a fairytale, and Jovi’s cooking is that of a top chef. This lodge is magic and highly recommended for small parties or groups that are looking to enjoy nature in a peaceful, quiet, yet breathtaking setting. Each room has a bathtub, indoor and outdoor shower. There are three rooms on each side of the lodge which is perfect for a group of 10-12. Because you are in the middle of the bush animals are everywhere, and you feel like you are one with nature. I highly recommend this lodge to anyone looking to explore Mjejane and Kruger areas. Thank you Gary & Jovi for my dream wedding, and for coming into my life I will never forget your kindness and...
Read moreKruger Sunset Lodge is an absolute fantastic place to stay. Gary and Jovita are warm and welcoming and everything far exceeded our expectations. Our every need was taken care of. Beautiful setting, luxurious rooms and places to sit and relax. We had a relaxing time at the poolside. Saw a herd of elephants gracefully passing by, an awesome sight to see. Our game drives were a real treat. We saw all the big 5. Gary's knowledge of the bush and game are incredible. Gary went to great lengths to see the lions and we were able to see a pride of lions moving through the bush. Females, cubs and a male lion and so close. A spectacular sighting. Thank you Gary and Jovita for an unforgettable experience. We look forward to our next visit, a 5...
