I stayed at the private Villa. We arrived at the lodge and then was lead to the Villa. Upon arriving I noticed the rodding eyes to the sewer were open which made me think there was a problem with the sewer. This was confirmed when we flushed the loo on the upper level and sewage flew out at the loo on the lower level. There was also no hot water. The next day they attempted to resolve the sewer issue and left. We used the loo again and the problem occurred again. The house was now stinking and we notified the owner again. The hot water issue was the thermostat and it was too late to get a plumber out. The next day one of the team from the lodge broke out the concrete over the sewer line to repair the pipe and a plumber was called out to resolve the thermostat. We just stopped using the loo on the problem side and closed the room off. The hot water was back with just a day and a half left in our stay. The response or lack thereof from the owner left much to be desired. The house itself needs some refurbishment, a bit dated, the electrical work seems to be a diy job, the blinds in the showers are all damaged and short and do not provide any privacy when you are taking a shower. In the room we slept in on the upper level on the left as you enter, there was a shower head missing, the tap on sink was lose, the light in the toilet did not work, the curtain rail came off when I adjusted the curtain, the blinds in the shower were around 150mm short on the windows allowing an audience when showering. The light in the pool does not work. On the one night the alarm in the house went off twice, i called the security company who confirmed that the front door was the problem and resolved this by using a matchstick, the owner was not seen or heard from. The TV lounge has a tv without even SABC, just a snowy screen, I did ask for an HDMI cable which I received quickly which allowed me to stream from my laptop. I had to request WIFI which was thereafter presented quickly, was included as per the ad. If it had not been for the interaction with the animals or the pool, i would have left on the first day already. It was resounding hot and if not in the pool you would have to be in the bedrooms as these are the only...
Read moreRoyal Kruger Lodge Family. Thats what you become. ||Arriving can be a bit overwhelming (but please dont take this in a bad way), especially if coming from europe youve had a good time traveling. Even more so if you have taken the Bus transfer from Johanesburg (if you are booking through voyage prive the 4 hours they specify is probably more 6-8 realistically.) We did the Nelspruit flight from JNB and that was perfect but still a little more than the 40 minutes bus ride @ 1.5 Hours but still a lot easier than the Bus Transfer from JNB. ||Back to the arrival, the welcome is brilliant the staff from the lodge will greet you with refreshments get you checked in and take your luggage to the room. ||Rooms - Perfect for what you need. Beds are comfy with bug nets surrounding. Bathrooms which i believe have just been refurbished are perfect with rainfall showers. One bit of advice i would suggest would be for the power adapter you need to get the following adapters - Type M (Round 3Pin) or Type N (Diamond Shape 2 Pin) there was one standard round european socket which we had to share as these were the only adapters we brought (from the UK) ||Food - I dont think there was a meal we didnt enjoy. ||Breakfast there is a selection of cold items & toaster but you can also order hot items from a menu which were all very nice. ||Lunch - Lunch depending on what was being cooked that day was either buffet or served to you already plated up||Becoming part of the family - this is the overwhelming bit at first it is but if your experience is anything like ours within a day you feel like home from home. Everyone sits together for Dinner on a night and its so nice to do this around the Boma Fire. You get to know eachother and trade stories of what you saw throughout your daily...
Read moreWe're really glad we chose Royal Kruger Lodge. The location is great, the staff are excellent, and the room/ facilities are comfortable and clean. They made an effort to give me vegetarian alternatives at every meal but for meat eaters especially, the food is plentiful and diverse. The safaris are incredible and Robert deserves a lot of recognition for how hard he works and the effort he goes to every day to give you the best drive with the best viewings. The photos by Matthieu are excellent and really allow you to sit back and enjoy the experience, knowing his photos are going to be of phenomenal quality and reasonably priced. He gives the lodge its USP. Having animals such as zebra and warthogs visit the lodge throughout the week was special and something we doubt we'll experience again.||||The majority of visitors are French and being British, it was isolating at times. The concept of a shared dinner, boma style, was really cool, but it's disappointing when you're asked to move to the end of the table and no one talks to you. This is just luck of who is staying whilst you're there, but I think the owners could do a bit more to help you feel included. Nevertheless, we had a lovely time and would...
