Myself and my four year old boy stayed at this lodge for one night. The accommodation was pre-booked and paid for by a travel agent. The accommodation was good with a large sized room containing all the standard amenities. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was above average. The only mild irritation as far as the room was concerned was close proximity to staff quarters - the resident of which was rather noisy after 9 pm when all else was quiet.
I was however very disappointed and frankly upset by the attitude of the owner who waited until the morning after our stay to inform me that this lodge does not allow children below the age of 12 on the premises. She then proceeded to ask why I disregarded this rule. I explained that the booking was made via a travel agent and that I was not informed of the age restriction. She told me that children make noise and misbehave which is unacceptable and upsetting to other guests. I asked if there were any complaints specifically aimed at my son and she responded with "not yet" and that there are other accommodation options in her group of lodges that are child friendly and that we should rather make use in future. She furthermore said that she will inform her agent about this unfortunate incident and went so far as to say that her other guests will only have breakfast later and will luckily therefore not be effected by my son's presence!
I don't dispute that the age restriction rule was not adhered too and the travel agent should most definitely be taken to task for ignoring this rule. I am however offended by the aggressive and unprofessional manner in which the owner chose to deal with this situation. We packed our things immediately after this altercation and left the premises. I can't understand why this issue was not brought to my attention upon arrival and I think that it is in bad taste and rather cruel to make such a scene in front of my son. I will not recommend this establishment to anyone as a result and I will most definitely share my bad experience with the...
Read moreWe stayed for 3 nights at the lodge on the Green in Hermanus. First of all the good sides of the guesthouse, quiet location, friendly service and a good and a rich and good breakfast. Unfortunately our stay was marred by the fact that, that the toilet in the room was leaking and there was an intense smell of Urin in the whole bedroom, we couldn’t nearly not sleep. Following our complaints, we were allocated a different room the next day, which was perfectly fine. On the third night, we had to go back to our old room and were told, that the damage had now been repaired. However there was a natural stone floor in the toilet room, which was not really separated from the bedroom due to the lack of a ceiling and a badly closing sliding door, so that Urin had penetrated the floor and it still stank terrible. In our opinion, the room is not habitable in its current state. Despite the management rented out the promised replacement room. We can therefore give only a poor rating. In addition the room was very rundown, with old , unappetizing carpets and a 50 years old shower head which only the finest jets of water come out. Our stay on my wife’s 70th birthday was a nightmare...
Read moreThe wife and i still laugh about how we got lost, looking for the place, as we were not really focusing on the signage. We arrived at the establishment and were greeted by John, very legendary fella. He took us in, helped with the luggage and explained everything to us. Nice touch with the sherry in the room 😉. Didn't make much use of the lounge area, but it was something to marvel. The breakfast was very delicious i must admit, you could mess around and snack for lunch if you have a small stomach like myself. Now remember i told you John was legendary, well he actually prepares the breakfast with the aid of a lady (sorry forgot her name), something of a dynamic duo. Wifi was on point always and uncapped, cleanliness on a 💯. Walks around the golf course are also possible in the mornings before play, and afternoon after play. Actually can't fault the place, enjoyed...
