From Glory to Story, the Club Hotel was once an exclusive gentlemans club of the high and mighty, with notable visits from the UK Royal Family (late Prince Phillips) and other dignitaries. Although the location in the heart of the city is geographically strategic in historical timelines, as with many other SA towns and cities these days, the CBD area is seemingly unsafe and bears security risks with the taxi ranks nearby and much foot traffic and litter a street away. The Club keeps a lot of memorabilia, guest books, log books, old photographs and an ancient fridge in the bar room, keeping the memories alive, in store and frozen in time. It does feels like a museum, and the effort of the owners in the upkeep and maintenance of the building infrastructure and workings are to be commended. The attention to the original colonial boutique style is detailed and meticulous, with opulent chandeliers and fine paintings, capturing a bygone era of a diamond boom. ||FOOD |We were the only patrons of the hotel and restuarant when we stayed, so we received their full attention. The dinner was delicious, however my chips was not fully cooked.|||ROOMS #3|With a century old hotel, what else can one expect! We visited the Kimberly Big Hole the next day and noted that the museum display of life and living (rooms from the colonial days) could be found in real time at the Hotel, as we noted the same type of light switches, still in operation at Kimberley Club Hotel. The splendour and grandeur has faded with time, but the wealth of the history and events add to the unique grandeur building that has stood the test of time. Basking on the balcony was glorious, despite having to listen to the hip-hop loud music blaring from the building opposite the street as a dweller hangs laundry. Some rooms equipped with a fireplace, and the spacious rooms are a luxury compared to modern rooms with smaller space. The bath towels were big and well appointed.||PARKING|Is found opposite the hotel, with a white security guard who assisted us that day.|In all, an enjoyable stay.||Disclaimer: review is over a year late.....as still unpacking memories...

Read moreThis place has so much history and character, which is why we chose to stay there. However some of the staff are very unfriendly and have no clue what's going on. There was so many things wrong for a supposed 4 star boutique hotel. The rooms while appearing to be clean realy need a huge deep clean. Blind on the window was broken and window wouldn't close properly. Towels were dirty (these were changed quickly). Bedding in one room was frayed and old with holes in the sheets. Rooms not made up while we were out for the day (this was not only our 2 rooms but at least another 2 near ours). The bathroom amenities are very basic for a 4 star rated hotel, 2 little rounds of soap and 2 small body lotions, no shampoo or conditioner. There was also no bottled water in the rooms upon arrival. There was also various maintenance issues. The hotel is seriously understaffed. On the night we stayed there was one young gentleman who had to work the bar and do service in the restaurant practically on his own. It was clear that he lacked some training and clearly was not happy, but tried his best. The restaurant has a very limited menu, however the food was prepared very well and was very tasty. The wine list was quiet good and would cover most tastes, however not one of these were in stock. They did however have one or two good wines to choose from. Breakfast was a joke, you are requested to complete a from for your choices, as this supposedly helps the kitchen. Cornflakes, fruit and muesli arrived on time. Then one request hot breakfast arrived before we were even finished. Then the other breakfasts arrived one by one and were not very warm. The really sad thing is that we were the only 4 having breakfast at that time. Our issues and concerns were conveyed to management and they were obviously most apologetic and ensured that all the issues will be resolved on an urgent basis. I sincerely hope this is the case, as I have had a look at some past reviews and similar issues have been reported...
