Stayed at Gowrie for three days. Rooms: Well appointed and neat, bathroom was excellent and the warn floor was a nice tough. Hotel and restaurant: Food every average, not well presented, service slow. Hotel needs work very out dated, furniture old and not clean. When waiting to be serviced at the bar, a committee member pushing in to get serviced first -- that's the way things are at this club. Golf: We booked to tee off time - we were told off the 10th, I asked where was the 10th, and the woman who happily took our money she just down there - 2km walk (clueless). Couse needs attention, tee to green paths need work. Play behind a four ball who were sharing clubs, and not proper golf kit. They were late and were three holes behind. (What the hell). Thanks goodness we had a woman caddy, she was brilliant, know all the right distances. Green were great, alone one thing the green keeper needs to learn how to cut and insert the cup to right depths. All and all great course - won't be back. Staff: All need training, only one waiter was great, Pro shop staff are rude and dismissive, seems as we were doing us a great favour to play there. On a positive note, great views,...
Read moreI have always rated the Gowrie golf course, so this rating is not for the golf course itself, it is a rating on the lodge accomodation purely.
We stayed in the rooms over looking the 18th green. The view was amazing, and the rooms are really well done and modern. I really could not fault them on this.... a suggestion is to possibly put an aircon in the rooms for the really hot Midland days that do happen... although the standing fan worked fine.
What really let us down, was large number of flies that were in the rooms. They were on the bed, the pillows and in the bathroom. It was not just one or 2 flies that you could manage. We are talking about 20 to 30 flies at any given time. I really think the lodge needs to set up fly traps or something. It seems as if there is a heard of cattle that are now right by the lodge and this could very well be the reason for the flies.
Other than the flies, we had a great stay. The staff were friendly, the golf course was amazing and everything ran like clock work.
I would live to go back again, and hopefully I can give them the 5 star rating...
Read moreWe stayed over at the lodge for 2 days during the cold front at the beginning of July. The room was comfortable, although freezing which is typical for the time of year. The lady at the front desk did everything to make our stay more comfortable by offering an additional heater which was much appreciated. The area is tranquil and calm, the lodge itself is wonderful with well-equipped rooms.||||One gripe I do have is that we changed dates, however Gowrie could not offer the same room, hence there was a refund due. However, we were told that only 50% of the refund would be issued, which I feel was grossly unjust as we did not cancel, merely changed dates. We were informed that if the room was sold we would be issued with a refund and this was according to their policy. This was a very contentious issue where we were at the mercy of the lodge, which tainted an overall...
