From the time we arrived at Granny Mouse we were greeted warmly with a glass of Champers and a tour of the establishment.
Our first night included brandy and chocolate tasting which was an absolute hit, choccies to die for and delicious brandy which is an experience I won’t forget. The tasting was done in the Wine Cellar. It was super for the first 30 minutes, thereafter a little boring as It is small area and music only lasts about 30 minutes and CD turns off. Thankfully the brandy was good and the bottle of wine....
We were lucky enough to be staying on the same weekend as a Wedding and where able to take a sneak peak at the Chapel and reception venue which were equally pretty. The only downfall with a wedding party is they take up the common area and music plays quite loud. If you are looking to have peace and quite then I suggest you plan ahead and go when NO wedding is on.
Granny Mouse boasts the most spectacular scenic views of the hilly Midlands and my Bestie gave her camera skills a good testing. Our second day included a visit to the Spa which I must say is the highlight of Granny Mouse, the Spa therapists are of a very high standard and both of our treatments where enjoyed – I would definitely recommend this Spa even if it’s just for a day visit. (Do not order champagne why getting a peddi..... rather uncomfortable to drink when you are on the bed in a almost sleep position)
I was disappointed with the food at Granny Mouse. I felt they could offer a higher quality considering the price of the accommodation. (Excluding the breakfast buffet, that was well set up) The meal from the Bistro was lovely but the meal from the dining hall where they serve the breakfast needs serious consideration.
Granny Mouse offers specials on a regular basis and we were fortunate enough to benefit from their Winter special which included discounted accommodation, vouchers (one R250.00 voucher) and wine (6 bottles), result = money well spent and affordable. Granny Mouse is suitable for families, couples and singles alike as there is a little something for everyone.
Lovely little touches in the room, Slippers, Towelling gowns (If you are larger than XL you may have an issue), weather forecast cards, mini bar with goodies (Very expensive), oil burners and a complimentary jelly sweet.
Give Granny Mouse a try you will be impressed.

Read moreExtremely disappointed with the food. Got food poisoning from the lamb at the Bistro. Another party member also had to send their lamb back to the kitchen because it tasted so bad. We were given 50% off the food bill because clearly they agreed that something was wrong with the food. I became so dehydrated from food poisoning that I had to go to hospital at 11pm to be rehydrated with a drip. Having to stop on the side of the road to have diarrhea in the middle of the cold dark night in the midlands WAS NOT FUN. Thankfully I am a medical doctor and did not have to incur much cost for emergency medical fees. The manager (I think?) had the audacity to say that I must have been allergic to something in the food, although I have never suffered from any food allergy in my 30 years of being alive- not sure where she got her medical degree from either.. I decided to give granny mouse another chance to redeem itself and tried the fine dining food (when I could eventually tolerate food) and it was sadly not great- Extremely overpriced for the portion size and taste, although the food is presented well. This was the overall general consensus from the party of 5 people I was with. I am a lover of fine dining and this place just fell short. I stay in the midlands often and will definitely not recommend granny mouse for the food- plenty of better food establishments.
No real issues with the room, it was cosy and warm and private, i liked the turndown service. The place itself is really peaceful and charming. The bistro area itself is really beautiful and so is the chapel.I just really struggled to enjoy myself due to being sick from the...
Read moreGranny Mouse was a major disappointment. We arrived with no reservation for lunch...direct from Durban. We were met with an obnoxious snuff by the front lady...who proceeded to lecture me, a 50 year old man, in undertones about making a booking the next time. We were taken to the bistro which was certainly not buzzing. After a few moments jangling around we were seated in a lovely scenic outdoor table. The starters were ok...run of the mill...despite promising menu descriptions. The mains were overpriced and totally umimpressive. I had a duck and mushroom pie. Pastry was crisp and tasty but it was sparsely filled with dried duck and mushroom. My onion rings were clearly the frozen I&J variety ..terrible. Chips were very crisp and enjoyable...honestly a shop bought pie for R25 would have been better. My son couldn't eat the brioche with slow cooked chicken. The brioche was stale and heavy and the chicken was absolutely dry and unseasoned. Again a fancifully described, named and prices dish...but an absolute fail. My wifes sole was overcooked and dry. How do you overcook a sole? The roasted veggies... though tasty, was dry and obviously kept for too long. Oh and please no half respecting bistro would use goldcrest cheap black olives in their restaurant...after all you are in Midlands...local olives abound with full flavour. On top of it all we were made to wait 1 and half hours for our main meal and our drinks were never serviced after the 1st round...even though we were made to wait for so long. I have always wanted to go to Granny Mouse...and i have heard good things before. Sadly this is not the Granny Mouse I...
